École Meaford Community School Newsletter Principal: Jill Nebb http://www.mea.bwdsb.on.ca June, 2015 Office Manager: Marilyne Saunders A message from the Principal Welcome to the last month of the school year. It is hard to believe how quickly the academic year has passed. I have enjoyed getting to know students and their families. June is a busy month! Thank you to everyone for their contributions and encouragement toward our ‘Heroes for Hope’ shave-off and Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser. Our school motto is: ‘MCS stands tall, caring for all.’ This event certainly highlighted that we do indeed live our motto. In addition, many of our classes have been making scarecrows in preparation for the Scarecrow Festival in the fall. Some of our classes are also contributing to the community garden being created on Highway 26. Finally, you will have received a permission form for your child to be involved in a Meaford Community Clean Up Day to ‘give back’ to our community in thanks for all of the wonderful ways that it contributes to the lives of our families. In anticipation of the warm weather, we remind students and parents of the dress code that can be found in the front section of each planner and the expectation that all members of our school will adhere to this. Thank you for respecting our learning environment. It is also recommended that students apply sunscreen each morning and carry a travel size in their backpack, especially on days when they will be outside for long periods of time. Hats for outdoors are also recommended when students are out in the sun. Please note that our students do not canvas door to door. In fact, it is the policy of the Bluewater District School Board that this not occur. If a child comes to your door asking for funds, please decline and contact me at the school. I understand that it is a past practice that parents submit, in writing, their requests for certain class placements for the following September. Instead of this format, please give me a call at the school if you feel that there is key information about your child that you feel I should know in order to select the best possible placement for his/her academic and social growth. I will not be changing students to different classes after the first day of school unless we require a school re-organization, so if there is information that you wish to share with me, please ensure that you do so before July 3rd. You can reach me at 538-2260 x 527. Please leave a voicemail if you do not reach me directly and I will return your call. The Meaford Hall and Cultural Foundation / Community Foundation Grey Bruce offers a very generous bursary to pay for students to attend arts and cultural camps. The Meaford Hall offers a number of theme camps including drama, history buff, Rawk (rock), guitar, and a musical theatre camp. Bursary applications are easy, available to everyone, regardless of your income, and available from the school (they are hanging on the bulletin board outside the office, along with brochures about the camps). Other arts and cultural camps can also be sponsored with the bursary. Camp—for free! I look forward to seeing your children return to school well-rested, happy and ready for another year of growing and learning. Thank you for the opportunity to work with you and them this year. Nut Free and Egg Allergy We continue to be nut and egg free! We do have students at MCS that have nut and egg allergies and require a nut and egg free environment. Please do not send any nut or egg products to school with your child. Please read the labels on prepared foods, carefully to avoid sending these products. There are many products that carry the “nut free” label! From our Library: It’s Round Up Time! Greetings MCS Families: It’s time to collect all our library resources. So please look under the bed and the sofa cushions, check the closets and your vehicle too and send those books back to school! I hope your children have enjoyed borrowing our books and will continue to read over the summer. Becky Azzano Library Clerk Yearbooks on Sale Now!
