Running and playing with a handicap – aids and
appliances for children with motor restrictions
Romping through the house corridor in the morning, kidding around at eye level with the
others at the day-care centre and playing football in the garden in the afternoon – children
love being on the move and conquering the world on their own little feet. In many cases
restrictions in the mobility thereby need not be a reason for not participating in such
pleasurable moments. Often it is simply a question of using the right aids and appliances
so that also girls and boys with a handicap can unlock new realms of experience and
develop a higher degree of independence
and above all normalcy.
Although Thomashilfen have been working on supporting children and adults with special needs
since more than 40 years, especially with very young customers the employees repeatedly
experience touching and surprising moments:
For example little Sarah, who as soon as she was fitted with her first walking trainer tGo, jets
through the gymnasium of her hometown in a way that scares the life out of the Thomashilfen
employee. A little later the girl also pushes the door to the elevator, disappears through the door,
only to reappear chirpily a little later. Sarah‘s mother explains radiantly: “Our little darling
knows her way around here very well. She has already thoroughly explored the building with
the wheelchair and never has anything bad happened. The tGo now opens up very new
possibilities for her – this makes us as parents very happy.”
In other cases, the team from Thomashilfen must first engage in persuasive efforts. Attention
was drawn to the 4-year-old Bircan through his nursery school teacher. Through a walking
disability the boy was not able to participate in many games with the other children.
The most difficult aspect of the situation: Bircan‘s parents rejected aids and appliances for their
son. Together with the employees from Thomashilfen it was possible to convince them to at
least try out the tGo. Meanwhile Bircan has long since become used to his “little green car”,
romps self-confidently with the other children and has been able to improve his motor abilities.
Stories like this are what make the team from Thomashilfen proud of their work. They show
that products like this really contribute towards sustainably increasing the quality-of-life and
development opportunities of customers. And lastly, for the employees they represent an
important motivation for informing more parents about very simple aids and appliances. When
the issue is about supporting children with a handicap, technical sophistication is often not even
necessary. On the contrary: over the past decades the old saying “less is more” has often proven
to be true at Thomashilfen. Through reduction and simplicity the company has been able to

offer maximum freedom of movement, uncomplicated operability and a fair price performance
ratio. So that the products can be used for as long as possible they have large adjustment ranges
and can be individually adapted. The tGo from Sarah and Bircan functions similar to a walker
with seat. Through side wheels it however also offers significantly more safety. A stomach
support additionally ensures the ideal posture. With girls and boys who only require very little
help the children‘s walking frame tStep could be the ideal support as alternative to “mummy‘s
hand”, or the walker tMotion, with which one can even play football. For all products from
Thomashilfen the rule thereby applies: Simply go to www.thomashilfen.com.

Being on the move with the tGo in spite of a motor handicap is especially great fun. It operates
similar to a walking frame with seat, however for children that require somewhat more stability
it offers extra safety through its side wheels. A stomach support additionally not only provides a
healthy posture, but also prevents tipping forwards on the steering wheel. For girls and boys
with a handicap the tGo thereby offers a great amount of freedom of movement and makes it
enjoyable to train walking.
Trade fair innovation – tStep - walker
Simply step inside and off you go - safely on the move with slight support
Children with and without a handicap enjoy holding mummy‘s hand the most. If they still need
a little support in walking also at the day-care centre and at school, then the tStep is just the
right appliance here. The practical children‘s walker in blue has four rollers and a small seat for
resting.
It has been reduced to all the important functions and can be easily folded for transport.
Through this children can come along everywhere and thereby train in walking.
Trade fair product innovation tMotion - agile retro-walker for more freedom of movement
The walker tMotion was developed for children who only require very little support when
walking independently. Contrary to the children‘s walker tStep, it is not intended for pushing,
but for pulling. It is thereby open towards the front and only has a small sitting surface for
occasional resting. Through its design it is also inviting to interact intensively with other
children. Walking, playing or simply standing together in the school playground – with the
tMotion nothing is there to prevent it. For excursions together it can additionally be quickly
folded and transported in a space-saving way.
