The structures will be built at the Old Hickory Mall on Tuesday, October 2nd and will be on display through October 11th. Canstruction is a design/build competition with a unique way to help feed the hungry. Competing teams showcase their talents by designing giant sculptures made entirely out of canned foods. At the close of the exhibition, all of the food used in the structures is donated to the Regional Inter-Faith Association (RIFA) Food Bank to distribute to other nonprofits in the JacksonMadison County area that serve individuals, food pantries and shelters. The participating teams are Bodine Aluminum, Fellowship Bible Church, First Christian Youth Group, Gerdau, Jackson Energy Authority, Regional Hospital of Jackson & Vaughn Associates Architects and Sacred Heart of Jesus High School. Sponsors include: Lead sponsor, Tennaulum; Gold Sponsor, Raymond James | Morgan Keegan; Silver Sponsors, Barger Construction and First South Bank. About RIFA RIFA is a Christian non-profit organization that feeds, clothes and trains people in need by combining life-changing resources from area churches, businesses and individuals to show Christ’s love in action every day of the year. In 1976, local churches and community leaders came together to discuss the growing poverty levels in Jackson, Tennessee. The problem: each individual church and civic organization did not have the resources to effectively provide relief for those in need. To coordinate a untied effort, they formed a separate agency to help: the Regional Inter-faith Association (RIFA). For more information, visit www.rifajackson.org. ###
