Aluminium foil: The natural partner of the BBQ world champion Brussels/Gothenburg, 12 June 2015: Summer is coming and with it , the annual barbecue season. More than 70 teams from Europe, America and Africa and 50,000 spectators will arrive in Gothenburg, Sweden on 13-14 June to participate in the World BBQ Championship. European Aluminium, together with its foil division EAFA (European Aluminium Foil Association), supports the championship to highlight the many advantages of aluminium products for barbecue lovers. Contestants will prepare five classic barbecue dishes (beef brisket, pork shoulder, chicken, baby back ribs and salmon), judged by an international jury. They have to present their tasty meals on high-quality aluminium foil platters and containers. European Aluminium will be present at the event together with its Swedish member Svenskt Aluminium. 2012 European BBQ champion Ed van de Schootbrugge (photo) will give barbecue demonstrations, using aluminium household foil and foil containers to prepare and grill the food. Spectators are invited to taste small appetizers and of course combine these with a refreshing drink served in an aluminium beverage can! Barbecue lovers from all over the world appreciate the many advantages of aluminium. Aluminium foil and containers are light yet strong and can be easily formed, making them ideal for wrapping food. Aluminium quickly dissipates heat and is safe for use in contact with foodstuffs, making it the obvious partner for your barbecue. And at the end of its usage it can be recycled without losing its material characteristics. The recycling process for aluminium requires 95% less energy compared with primary production.
