trigger further sanctions and interventions at certain points. Details of this are given later in this handbook.

Vertical
Tutoring
The Benefits Of....

Part of a family, students of different ages – just like real life

Learn to work with people of different ages

People to turn to who are experienced and been through worries.
For example:
Options / Personal Advice / Bullying

Make friends from different year groups

More support from form tutors at different times of the year

Being competitive - forms are teams. Mixed age teams

Learn to look after each other and share experiences
How Vertical Tutoring is
organised
• Each house is made up of 10 forms and
the aim is to achieve a balance of 5 pupils
from each year group.
• The House Tutor stays with the same
group of pupils from Year 7 to 11.
• The Head of House supports Form Tutors
and pupil within their forms throughout
their time at Walkden.

What pupils think..
“I was quite nervous of being with the older ones, didn’t
want them to laugh at me”
Megan Ogden, Year 7
How do you feel now?
“I like it, they become like sisters and brothers. They are
there for you if you fall out with friends. They help with
homework sometimes. I am looking forward to helping
Year 6 settle”.
Amber Sharples, Year 7
