About Us:
Second Base Youth Shelter provides necessary and emergency food, clothing and shelter to homeless youth,
aged 16 through 21. Operating on Kennedy Road in Scarborough, the Second Base facility also provides
counselling and the opportunity for local youth to become self-reliant within the community.
In addition to the emergency shelter, Second Base operates a Housing, Information and Referral Centre (Dropin) that services both shelter residents and youth from the community at large.

Second Base is looking for Board Members who bring expertise in the following fields:

Financial Background, in the not for profit sector

HR skills in a unionized environment

Communications, Marketing, Social Marketing and Social Media

Fundraising, network building, government relations

Governance and , Policy

Program development and evaluation

Community and partner relationships

In addition, we are looking for people who are:

A Youth between age of 18 and 30

Reflective of the diverse Scarborough community(Racially diverse, religiously diverse,
transgendered/trans-sexual, newcomer to Canada, etc)

Knowledge of youth with Mental Health and Addictions

What you bring: You got expertise in one or more of the key areas above. You are passionate about providing
care for youth in our city, and committed to a successful future for Second Base. Proven skills in governance,
board and non-profit experience a definite asset.
Time: Board members meet approx. 10-12 times per year and also contribute to committee work. A
commitment of approximately 5 to10 hours per month is required. Board terms are three years with the
possibility of renewal by re-election.
Location: Second Base (Scarborough) Youth Shelter.
Selection: Qualified candidates will be contacted for an interview with Second Base's Board Recruiting
Committee.
