3v3 BASKETBALL RULES
1. No team may take the court with fewer than 3 players, and 3 players shall be on
the court at all times. Each team may have up to a maximum of 3 substitutes (6 per
team max).
2. Each game consists of two 13 minute halves. There will be no stoppages during
the game, 2 minutes for half time and 2 minutes between games.
4. Substitutions can be made at any stoppage in the game, excluding when a
basket is made. The referee must be informed of the sub.
5. No sharp adornments or jewellery shall be worn, and fingernails should be kept
short.
6. Scoring will be aligned with regular 3v3 rules; 1 point for a made shot inside the
3-point arc, 2 points for a made shot outside the 3-point arc, and 1 point for a made
free throw. Double points will be awarded to females.
7. The ball is out of court when it touches the ground or an object outside of the
playing area, or when it is held by a player who makes contact with the ground or
object outside of the playing area. This includes the net separating courts.
8. Each team is permitted 6 fouls per half before the penalty comes into effect.
Each foul committed on or after the 6th will see one free throw awarded to the nonoffending team.
9. Fouls committed in the act of shooting the ball will be awarded accordingly; 1
free throw for an attempted shot inside the 3-point arc, and 2 free throws for a shot
attempted outside the 3-point arc. If the shot attempted is made, the basket will
count, and an additional free throw awarded.
10. A foul will be called for any of the following offences;
a) A defender makes excessive contact with the body or arms of the attacking
player while dribbling;
b) A defender makes excessive contact with an attacking player while still
attempting to gain position in front of the attacker;

c) A defender is deemed to have made contact with any part of the attacker’s body
in the shooting motion, while either being mobile or in a non-vertical
stance/position;
d) An attacker uses their forearm in an excessive manner to create space;
e) An attacker makes contact with a defender who has gained stationary position in
front of them, prior to them reaching that same position (charge);
f) An attacking player interferes with a defender while not stationary;
g) Any excessive contact both on and off the ball, instigated by either teams’
players.
11. In the event a foul is called outside of a shooting motion, the ball will be
awarded to the non-offending team to inbound, except in the instance it is the 6 th
foul.
12. Attacking players may not remain inside their attacking key for more than 3seconds. This will result in a turnover at the top of the arc.
13. To ‘change hoops’ (a switch from defending the basket to attacking it) a teams’
players must clear the 3-point arc with their feet and the ball. This must be done
regardless of if the ball has touched the basket or not.
14. Following a successful basket, the non-scoring team shall be awarded the ball
underneath the basket. This must be inbounded and taken past the arc. The
defending team may not play at the ball inside the defensive semi-circle.
15. In the event of a dead-ball, the ball must be exchanged between the team with
possession and the defending team before the game can commence e.g. player
with ball passes to defender, who passes it back.
16. In the event of a default, the defaulting team will record a loss of 0-10, and the
non-offending team a win of 10-0.
17. All players must be 14 years and older. Appropriate, non-marking covered
footwear should be worn at all times.

18. Team are expected to wear a uniform. Bibs are provided in case of a clash.
19. All players are expected to adhere to the terms and conditions of Social Sport’s
Indoor Series. Organisers and referees reserve the right to remove any
player/team from a game/league.
