A degree needs to be denied because the student has not completed the
requirements for their expected grad term.
This document details how to deny a degree within SIS.
The degree is denied.
A student’s program plan stack is in ‘apply for graduation’ status and the student
has not met all of the academic requirements for his/her Degree/Certificate in the
semester they intend to graduate.

1.
Description
Navigate in SIS to Main Menu > Records and Enrollment > Career and Program Information > Student
Program/Plan.
2.
Enter the Student ID in the ID field (e.g. “3000000”) and the click the Search button.

Click the Add a new row at row 1 (Alt+7)

Enter a valid date in the Effective Date field (e.g., “05/15/2015”). The Effective Date should be the
end date to the term the student is expected to graduate.
5.
Click the Look up Program Action (Alt+5)
button and choose “DATA” (Data Change) from the list.

Verify that the Checkout Status is correct and then click the OK button on the dialogue box.

Click the Look up Action Reason (Alt+5)
list.

In the Expected Grad Term field, press [Backspace] to remove the Expected Grad Term value.

Click the Student Degrees tab.

Click the Update Degrees list and select “Denied.” Then click the Save button at the bottom of the
page.

If a CRNF stack with a plan code of 7900N has been created to support future enrollment, then
additional steps are needed. If this is the case, follow the remaining steps below:

Enter the Student’s ID into the ID field and then click the Search button.

NOTE: Since this student's degree was denied, the original CRED stack was reactivated. Given that
this student now has an active CRED stack, term activation needs to point to the Student Career
Number associated with the active CRED stack. This is a Maricopa Business Rule. This allows the
student to be eligible for Federal Financial Aid, if needed.

In the pop-up, choose the active Program Plan with the Academic Program of CRED.
15.
Click the Save button at the bottom of the screen.

Click the Student Program tab.

Click the Add a New Comment
button.
Note: Your internet browser may block this feature if the pop-up blocker is enabled. You will need
to disable or bypass the pop-up blocker to proceed.

Click the Look up Comment Category (Alt+5)

In the pop-up, choose “GRAD” (Graduation Adhoc Comment).

Click the Variable Data button. Verify that the appropriate Academic Career and Student Career
Number are on the Variable Data Page. Then click OK.

Click in the Comments Field and enter the desired information. Click the Save button.
