Police, Private Company’s, Airports, Football Clubs, etc.

We are looking for a professional Quantity Surveyor to provide a quantity surveying function
in house. The role is key to the company’s future development and success in delivering a
continuous flow of new business, managing existing business and long term clients.
The Directors seek to attract a Quantity Surveyor with broad commercial skills and a strong
background in tender costing, estimating whilst understanding the commercial drivers,
valuing works, variation management and tracking, applications for payment, cost
negotiations (clients and supply chain), risk profiles and key success factors for Clients. The
Quantity Surveyor will ensure robust, accurate and innovative advice is delivered to
Directors and Contract Managers to align with their needs and business objectives.
Role Prospectus: Quantity Surveyor (QS)
To take ownership and full responsibility of the companies Quantity Surveying function on a
diverse range of contracts ranging from small circa £100k to larger £5m+ in value per
annum. The role will require you to liaise with Contract Managers and report to Directors &
The Board of Directors.
You must have the drive and professionalism to ensure the each contract is delivered to
budget and at the required profit. Key functions include assisting in preparing tender bids,
pre contract pricing methodology, post contract QS services and final accounts.
You will be expected to take ownership of the quantity surveying function in OpenView and
drive best practice in terms of pricing, valuing works, payment applications, variation
management, cost control, driving value in the supply chain and final accounts.
The role encompasses but is not limited to the following key aspects:Commercial and Operational Responsibilities:The responsibilities will include:


providing commercial advice to Directors and Contract Managers
preparing tender and contract documents, including tender return costs;

advising on procurement strategy;
maintain contract documentation and advise on pre tender and post contract matters;
material take off
preparing and analysing costings for supply chain quotes/tenders;
undertaking negotiations with supply chain partners;
undertaking cost analysis for repair and maintenance work, service replacements,
project works and new installations;
establishing cost and profitability forecasts on contracts;
Preparing and issuing contractual and commercial letters to clients
performing risk, value management and cost control;
identifying, analysing and developing responses to commercial risks;
allocating work to subcontractors;
providing advice on contractual claims;
analysing outcomes and writing detailed progress reports;
manage and value variations
valuing completed work, issuing interim valuation and chasing payments;
maintaining awareness of the different contracts in current use;
provide training in cost management to OpenView staff
understanding the implications of health and safety regulations.
providing facilities management services and life cycle costing advice;
carry out material procurement;
preperation, submission and agreement of final accounts
Qualifications


Degree Level
RICS Member (but not essential)












Strong numerical and IT skills
Good working knowledge of forms of contract currently used within the Building and
Engineering industry
Good working knowledge of standard forms of measurement. SMM7 and CESMM3

Good IT skills - particularly Word and Excel
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
