Bruntwood Pre-School Policy For Children Becoming Ill At Pre School If a child becomes ill at pre school, our policy is to send the child home to ensure he / she have their individual needs met by their parent / carer in a surrounding familiar to them. We expect parents or carers to be ready to collect their child if this were to happen. This procedure also protects other children and adults from the risk of any infection. If a child appears to be unwell, this should be reported to the person in charge of the session, and a member of staff familiar to that child will make him/ her as comfortable as possible. The person in charge of the session will first of all telephone the parents. If contact cannot be made with the parent, the emergency contact numbers will be tried. If this fails, the child will be made as comfortable as possible and a member of staff, familiar to the child, will remain with them until the end of the pre school session. If the staff are concerned about a child’s condition deteriorating we will contact the child’s GP for advice or ring for an ambulance and again try to contact parents or emergency contact persons. A member of staff will accompany the child and stay with them until contact has been made with their parent to advise them of the situation and for their parent to get to the hospital to be with their child. The parents or carer will be informed of the symptoms and advised to seek medical advice if less serious. This policy was adopted by the pre-school on (date) ___________ Signed on behalf of the pre school ___________________
