DP/FLEX RULE A. The use of the DP/FLEX can be confusing to many. Here is a very basic guideline for its use. YOU MAY ONLY USE THE DP/FLEX WHEN: 1. Both the DP and FLEX are listed on the line-up card prior to the beginning of the game. (You may not have one without the other.) LINE-UP CARD POSITIONS FOR DP AND FLEX: 1. The DP is listed in one of the 1st nine batting positions. 2. The DP bats only for the FLEX. 3. The FLEX is listed in the 10th position. 4. The FLEX never bats as a 10th batter. ROLE OF DP AND FLEX: 1. The DP bats only for the FLEX. 2. The DP may play in the field for any player and still bat for the FLEX. 3. The FLEX may bat for the DP. When the FLEX bats for the DP, the DP is out of the game and may re-enter later. Mark the DP with whichever method you use for substitutes to indicate that she has left the game. This indicates that the Flex is now batting. 4. The DP may play in the field for the FLEX. When this happens, the FLEX has left the game and may re-enter later. Mark the FLEX with whichever method you use for substitutes to indicate that she has left the game. SUBSTITUTES: 1. Any eligible substitute may replace the DP and/or the Flex without altering the status of the other. Spring 2014
