The Motivator *Hand write what is in the box 3 times and staple it to this sheet. This is due tomorrow (the next day you return to class) with parent signature, or you will be given a referral and sent to the dean. In school, there are opportunities for learning, playing, speaking, listening, and silence. I am writing this so I might be properly motivated to the habit of learning. In a classroom with others, all cannot talk at once. I cannot learn or listen when I am talking. In the learning process, only one may talk at a time, and all others should listen; otherwise, I offend my fellow pupils and my teacher. When my teacher gives instructions and information, I must learn to listen and follow directions. I must remember a positive mental attitude will go a long way in making me a successful pupil. True greatness is attained in rendering service to others. One service I must render to my fellow schoolmates is to be silent and to listen so both they and myself can learn. I must remember there are no limitations to what I can learn, except those I place upon myself. Too many times, I have been guilty of guessing instead of thinking. I must learn to listen by an act of my own will and discipline. When I accept personal responsibility for and monitor my behavior in the classroom, I not only help myself to be a better pupil, but at the same time, I allow other pupils to do the same. I recognize that my mind controls my body. Therefore, I am responsible for me. If I think of myself as inferior, my shoulders will droop. If I imagine myself as upstanding, I shall stand tall. Negative behaviors in my classes are marked by rebellion, destruction, and criticism, all which destroy self-respect and respect I want others to have for me. These negative behaviors will only lead me to becoming a troublesome teen. In writing this motivator, my teacher is attempting to help me become a success. Nothing is more important than knowing if I set a goal, I should work hard to achieve that goal. And unless I aim high and give my very best, I shall always live below my potential. In writing this motivator, my teacher expects me to make a special effort to improve myself by knowing where I am going and how to get there. I shall present no alibi, nor excuse. I shall monitor my behavior in class for the good of all concerned and not for perpetual self-gratification. I shall learn to be a good follower, thus preparing myself to become a good leader. I shall learn to keep my actions under control, so I can take advantage of the opportunities given to me in school and become a good citizen and a success in life. Each day when I come to school, my parents and others expect me to do my very best, learn everything I possibly can, and always be on my very best behavior. When I break the rules, I am not learning. When my teachers have to spend time correcting me, all the other pupils in my classroom are not learning either. I realize this is not fair to the other students nor is it fair to the teacher whose job is to teach the coursework. I am old enough to control myself. This is the time I need to be as mature as I can, because I am setting an example for all the younger students who see me. I do not want the younger pupils to receive the false impression that they may break the rules. My success in the future is directly related to my success in school. Had I not earned the punishment of writing these paragraphs, I could be studying and coming closer to a great education. And with that great education, I will be able to get a great job. With that great job, I will be able to get the things I desire in life. I will now learn from my mistakes, and I will work as hard as I can, so I can reach this goal.
