5TH GRADE PARENT MEETING
1:1 iPad program
AN OVERVIEW
Series of foundation donations to Stafford
Primary, various gifts given to Stafford as
awards for teachers and PTSA support has led to
the creation and sustainment of this program
 Conversations between teachers/administrators
in our district and outside of our district
 109 iPads are used by students throughout our
school
 Over 80 were checked out to 5th graders last year
and brought to and from school everyday

OUR PURPOSE: ANOTHER TOOL IN YOUR
CHILD’S TOOLBOX…
for research and inquiry
 to easily present evidence of learning
 to improve reading, writing, math skills
 to help engage students with instruction
 to help organize and build study skills
 to increase media/digital literacy
 to enrich teaching and learning with mobile
technology
 to teach digital citizenship


HOW ARE THEY CONFIGURED?
AppleConfigurator/Volume Purchasing program
 One user id in the background for all
 All content created by students will be erased at
the end of the year
 App store access can be restricted
 Restrictions are placed on every iPad for
allowable content- these restrictions do not apply
to the internet though!


Classroom agreements about use- including
expectations for how and when used, recess
expectations and care for iPad

MANAGEMENT AT HOME…
You are in charge!
 Student use of iPad should always be in sight of
an adult- please do not let your child take their
iPad into their room at bedtime!
 At first, we strongly encourage students to only
use the iPads for schoolwork. Once you are
comfortable with it, you decide if there will be
free tech time and then for how long.
 Questions about use for homework- just let us
know.
 Balance- take time to disconnect!

