EARTH HOUR Climate change remains the most serious problem we face – changing weather patterns, warming seas and melting ice are devastating for both people and wildlife. Urgent global action is needed if we are to avoid the worst impacts of climate change and safeguard our world. Lorne Street Primary will be uniting with schools across Scotland, the UK and the World for signing up for WWF’s Earth hour. Earth Hour 2015 takes place on Saturday 28th March 2015 at 8.30pm when people around the world will turn off their lights for one hour to show support for our planet. As we work towards Eco school status it is a great activity to become involved in and the Eco Committee will be encouraging all Lorne Street Primary pupils and their families to do the same. PERSONAL DETAILS It is crucial that we have up to date information for parents/carers. In the event that you change your address or phone number, please let the office know as soon as possible. SEASONS FOR GROWTH Seasons for Growth is an educational programme which aims to promote social and emotional wellbeing of children and young people coping with loss and change in their lives, usually as a result of death, separation or divorce. However it can be a result of any significant change in the child’s life. The core emphasis of the programme is the development of resilience and emotional literacy through developing skills in communication, decision making and problem solving. We plan to run a Seasons for Growth group soon. If you feel this programme would benefit your child, then please get in touch with Mr Nicolson . Mrs Mackay plans to run a group for the middle/upper school pupils in the near future. ATTENDANCE AND ABSENCE PROCEDURES In developing their role as responsible citizens all children are encouraged to arrive at school punctually. We would appreciate your support in ensuring that late attendance is minimised where possible. Any children who are late and have to enter school through the school office, will be recorded as late on the register. If your child is late, you must take them to the school office so that staff know they have arrived safely in school, you must not take them along to their class. Parents/carers are reminded that if a child is to be absent from school for any reason to let the school office know promptly each day, and preferably before registration at 9.00am. If there are frequent absences, Mr Nicolson will be in contact with the parents/carers. ASDA BAG PACK A huge thank you to all the pupil’s, parents and Mrs Graham who came along to the Asda Govan bag pack on Saturday 21st February. The magnificent total of £522.98 was raised.
