Curriculum plan for Ladybirds Senses Autumn 2 Ladybirds will be focusing on making relationships and awareness of others by: turn taking and sharing. Ladybirds will be encouraging the children to express their feelings using their individual communication systems and using the ‘I feel...’ board. Opportunities will be available to experience messy play and sensology. Opportunities will be offered to explore the world through our senses - how we see, hear, smell, feel and taste. We will learn about hot and cold, melting ice cubes; explore different textures with our feet and hands; experience different tastes/smells in sensology and listen to different sounds in the sensory room. In maths we will be exploring numbers in a variety of ways such as singing number songs & rhymes; sorting and counting at tidy up time; building with blocks; playing with magnetic numbers and number puzzles; grouping and sorting objects and working on 1-1 correspondence (touching objects with one finger and counting). We will be tracing sensory numerals with our fingers. Books including sensory books will be on offer daily &Ladybird will be accessing the school library to encourage them to handle books, enjoy pictures and repetitive print. Our story will be ‘That’s not my cat’. The children will be encouraged to recognise repeated words or phrases from familiar stories. Ladybirds will have opportunities to mark make both indoors and outdoors. classroom. and easels. The children will continue with their individual methods of communication such as the spoken word, PECs, Makaton (or all) Tacpac is on our planning, which is a sensory communication resource using touch and music to aid communication/social skills. The children will be more familiar with ‘objects of reference’ for transitioning. We will also be using our transition music for areas in school. Whilst playing and exploring, the children will begin to learn to share their interests and favourite activities. There will be free flow play to explore independently, make choices and access new challenges. The children will be encouraged to take off and hang up their own coat and put their bags in their tubs. They will also be encouraged to put their drinking bottles/cups in the tray after snack. has finished. In Expressive Arts and Design, the children will be encouraged to communicate through movement & play. We will be continuing with ‘Wake & Shake’ singing ‘hokey kokey’ to establish routine. The children will be experimenting with different textures such as fur, shiny paper, and sandpaper. We will listen to music which will be fast and slow and try to mirror our body movements. Ladybirds will build on their fine motor skills by manipulating with different resources such as play dough, crayons, peg boards and puzzles. We will be playing with the large parachute to create ‘wind’ and ‘fast and slow’ movements. Ladybirds will be learning to balance on vestibular aids, either sitting or standing.
