Insight Dashboards
Introduction
Q: What are the Insight Dashboards? What is included in this release?
A: The Insight Dashboards enables full reporting for all educators; classroom teachers, school
administrators, and district administrators that allows educators to access a far more intuitive, more
powerful interface for reporting that enables them to discover deep insights about their students,
classes, teachers, schools, and districts. It also includes student settings and classroom roster
management.
The reports provide a complete picture of student progress and proficiency against the standards,
identify where learning gaps exist, and surface where you could focus your intervention efforts.
Reports also surface how they are spending their instructional time, both in class and out-of-school
time. These insights and learning data enable administrators and teachers to make informed
decisions about instruction and instructional programming.
Q: Do the Insight Dashboards work on tablets or smartphones?
A: The Insight Dashboards are designed to be fully responsive to any screen size and to provide a
great experience on any device with a modern browser. They are supported by Android, Mac, or iOS.
Understanding the features of the Insight Dashboards
Q: Where can I find answers to my questions? (Help Mode tips)
A: Help Mode tips in the Insight Dashboards provide targeted help/information about specific
elements of the user interface. Help Mode tips are represented by a flashing circle next to the
feature. Clicking on a Help Mode tip will pop-up a dialogue that briefly describes the element being
addressed.
Q: How do I enable/disable the Help Mode tips?
A: The Help Mode tips are on by default. This feature can be enabled/disabled from the Profile
button menu in the upper right corner of your screen. Alternatively, you can click on a Help Mode tip
and select to turn them off by clicking on the “Turn off these tips” link included in the Help Mode tip
pop-up.
Q: Where can I find a glossary of the new terminology?
A: A glossary of terminology used in the Insight Dashboards can be found toward the end of this FAQ
document.

Data and metric definitions
Q: Will historical data be available in Insight Dashboards?
A: Historical data is viewable in the Insight Dashboards. Navigate to district, teacher, classroom, or
school level reporting and select any desired school year from the date dropdown. Historical date
options are only available when historical data exists at that level.
Q: Why do the new reports no longer show Unit Completion?
A: To provide richer, more detailed information, the Insight Dashboards emphasize lesson
completion, along with proficiency at standards. However, if you are interested to see which
DreamBox Units students have completed, you can select the Classroom Standards tab, click the blue
text under the "Standards Proficiency" title, and change the displayed standard set to "DreamBox
Learning Units" (which replaces your regional standard until you change the setting back).
Q: What does Growth mean in the reports?
A: Given the adaptive and personalized nature of the DreamBox experience, Growth is the sum of all
proficiency growth across all grade levels at which they are working, not just their current grade
level. This Growth percentage communicates progress through the DreamBox curriculum.
Q: What do the colors represent with regards to usage?
A: Orange text represents usage below recommended minimums, and green text represents usage
meeting or exceeding DreamBox recommended targets.
Q: How can I see how much time my students spend using DreamBox outside of school hours?
A: From the Classroom Reports or from a specific Student reports select the Usage tab. In the chart
labelled “Average Minutes of DreamBox Usage” hoover over a bar representing a specific time frame.
A pop up window will appear with information about Extended Use, School Use, and Total Use.
Extended Use refers to time spent in DreamBox outside of school hours.
Managing students
Q: What is the difference between Curricular Grade Level (CGL) and Grade Level (GL)?
A: Curricular Grade Level (CGL) represents where the school has determined that a student is
performing in mathematics. If a student has not started playing DreamBox, the CGL which is set for
them determines their placement in the curriculum, but editing their CGL later does not have an
effect on the student experience. A student's Grade Level (GL) is assigned by the school/district and
typically aligns to how the school district assigns students to a grade level classroom. This generally
reflects a student's calendar age rather than a student's mathematical proficiency. For example, if a
4th grade student (9 or 10 years old) is working on 2nd grade mathematics, then her "Grade Level" is
4 and her "Curricular Grade Level" is 2.

Q: What information can parents see about student learning?
A: An all-new Family Dashboard will replace the legacy Parent Dashboard. The Family Dashboard will
provide insights into what activities students have completed and which lessons they are in the
process of completing. Parents and guardians will also see usage by minutes and lessons completed,
in addition to how their student is progressing within DreamBox Learning Units.
Metrics Glossary
Usage
Active Students: Students are considered active if they spend about 15 minutes on DreamBox per
week (specifically, 2 minutes per day on average across each 7-day period). All averages at Class and
higher levels are calculated solely upon active students.
Lessons: Total Lessons Completed in the specified time period. This information is available for
Student and Class levels.
Average Lessons per Week (Avg Lessons/Wk): Average Lessons Completed per Week across all
active students in the specified time period. This information is available for Teacher, Grade, School,
and District levels.
Minutes per Week (Min/Wk): Minutes Spent on DreamBox per Week in the specified time period.
This information is available for Student and Class levels.
Average Minutes per Week (Avg Min/Wk): Average Minutes Spent on DreamBox per Week across all
active students in the specified time period. This information is available for Class, Teacher, Grade,
School, and District levels.
Extended Use: Average proportion of time spent outside of school hours (by default, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.)
on average for all active students in the specified time period. This information is available for
Teacher, Grade, School, and District levels.
Growth
Growth: Total growth across the time period (where 100% growth is one school level based on
regional standards) for the student. Growth in the DreamBox Learning Math curriculum may occur in
multiple grades within the selected time period, but this overall growth figure gives you a way to
compare students’ growth independently of the grade level(s) in which they are gaining proficiency.
Proficiency
Proficiency: Percentage of curricular area (whether grade level, subdivision of grade such as domain,
or a specific standard) completed by the student (or at a class level, the average percentage across all
students in the class). This information is always reported as of the current date.

Grades
At a Glance Cards: These cards provide quick information about active students enrolled in each
grade level in your district. Each card ("Grade 4," for example) shows Average Minutes per Week
spent on DreamBox within the selected date range, as well as Average Lessons Completed and
Average Growth, calculated for that student cohort (i.e., 4th Graders) active within DreamBox. Be
sure to use the drop-down above the bar graph to select the date range desired.
Clicking on a grade cohort's card will take you to the "Schools" report for the selected grade.

calculated across all active students in the selected school. Columns in a table are able to be sorted
by selecting the column title. To change the order of the sort, select the up or down arrow.
The bar graph is a visual representation of the data distribution in the table. Selecting a column
changes the frequency graph above the table to display the number of students who fall into each
displayed range in the graph (i.e. selecting Average Minutes per Week will show the distribution of
schools with high-and-low-average-time-spent students in the chart).
Performance
When students use DreamBox consistently (we recommend 60+ minutes per week) we see direct
correlation to growth against standards. This scatterplot demonstrates the relationship between
usage (Average Minutes per Week on DreamBox by active students) and progress (Average Growth
by active students). If you have many schools represented, select a cluster to zoom in for even more
detail. The table below provides detail on each school displayed.
Schools
This table and associated frequency chart show the same metrics per School as at the District level,
but each school’s data are filtered to the cohort of students enrolled in the selected grade.
