EXPECTATIONS OF THE VIKING COACHING STAFF

EXPECTATIONS OF THE VIKING
COACHING STAFF
The success of any football program is inherently dependent on the effort and abilities of
the coaching staff. The staff of the Seaman Football Program will model the expectations
of the players.
Parents and players can expect the Seaman Football staff to:
(1)
Use good judgment. Our decisions will be based on what we believe is
best for the team. Good judgment can also be expected in regard to
injuries and discipline issues.
(2)
Be ethical and professional. We will always coach by the rules. We will
take no short cuts to success. Inappropriate language will not be accepted.
(3)
Be good role models. Our coaching staff will model those characteristics
that we expect from our athletes.
(4)
Be positive and constructive. “So many coaches see coaching as telling
players what they are doing wrong. Telling them what they are doing
right is even more important” – Tom Osborne
(5)
Be respectful. We will treat each player equally. Talents may vary, but
each individual is critical part of the machine. Our coaches will neither
demean nor verbally abuse any member of our football team. We will
treat each individual with dignity
(6)
Be demanding yet compassionate. We will expect nothing less than
superior effort from each individual. It is our duty as coaches to motivate
and work to garner the absolute best from each member of our team.
However, we will be realistic in our expectations and understand the limits
of effort.
“The player must know that you will not tolerate less than his best, yet he
must know that you love him like your own. That is the art of coaching!”
-Bill Snyder
