Baseline considered in Sep. 2011
QCS schedule was too tight (already)
BEAST with QCS followed by detector installation
4 months for BEAST is also very tight
Two months for TOP is too generous

ARC told us to be careful.
There was a Beam Background crisis.
 What is the current status of Beam Background and QCS construction?
5
Can we start QCS-R construction from now??
Issues to be cleared
• We understand beam background well so that there will
be no further request of significant design change in
 H. Nakayama, beam
QCS-R
background session
• We are confident that QCS-R construction can be
started without waiting for feedback from QCS-L
construction
• There will be meaningful gain in schedule by launching
two QCS productions in parallel (we have enough
capability in equipment and manpower to do in parallel;
we have no other bottleneck)
 N. Ohuchi, B. Parker,
Y. Ohnishi
If any of the above three is negated, we should not start
QCS-R now, and we have to reconsider our global schedule.

Commissioning strategy
• Vacuum scrubbing without QCS/Belle solenoid
• What to install after completion of what?
– TOP, CDC, E-cap installation after vacuum scrubbing?
– VXD installation after understanding background level
with QCS/Belle solenoid??
Strategy depends on what we will be able to learn about
machine, and how soon
 BEAST session (Vahsen, Tanaka)
Feb. 26, 2012
9
Start of physics run
• Dec. 2015 (baseline Sep. 2011)
• Can we relax the schedule?
• Can we start physics run w/o VXD?
 physics session (Trabelsi, Golob)
Feb. 26, 2012

Other issues
2011/11/11
11
Beam background and radiation tolerance
• Good progress in simulation. All the efforts highly
appreciated
• In the end, simulation is just simulation. We need
safety factor to be safe in reality
Q: What is the current best knowledge by simulation?
Q: What are still missing in the simulation?
Q: What are the safety factors?
Q: (If not enough margin) Are there any “tuning knobs” in
detector parameters to live longer?
 Beam background session (Nakayama)
2011/11/11
12
Mechanical design of VXD
• Was not ready in March B2GM, but steady progress
seen since April.
– First drawing without geometrical conflict obtained in
April
• Improving design in sense of
– Better heat removal
– Easiness (feasibility) of installation
– Mechanical stability
 VXD mechanical designers meeting (Tanaka)
Feb. 26, 2012
13
Cables, pipes and service space
• Ideas on cables and pipes became more and more
concrete
– If not, show any preliminary ideas
• Area around QCS has changed for particle shield
(even narrower space for service)
• Slots through B/E-KLM gap and space around F/Bendcaps are also being claimed
 IR mechanics and service space (Tanaka)
 Service space around endcap/endyoke (Adachi)
• Space inside EH
• Space in exp. hall ( Ushiroda)
2011/11/11
 DAQ session (Itoh)
14
Readiness of TOP/PXD/KLM/…
• TOP/PXD/KLM were on the critical path
(depends on the global schedule)
(depends on how you declare the progress)
Feb. 26, 2012
15
Grounding
• Different grounding and shielding plans from
different sub-detectors
• Compile plans and draw global picture
• Possibly improve (within practical boundary
conditions)
• Set the baseline strategy
 Grounding session (Arteche)
