Clue #11 - February 2017

“A Place Set Apart”
Clue #11 - February
3 Cabin blocks
One last major unit to make for this quilt and then it will be time to sew the units together. By now, I am guessing you
have some idea of how this quilt might look. I still won’t give it away, though - you have to wait one more month to
find out the exact layout ofor this quilt. Let’s make three cabin units. (Raw edge finished size of units - 12.5” x 12.5”)

Sewing Instructions - Make 3 cabins
1. With RST, sew a G2 piece to a G1 piece: repeat this step to make 6
G units. You need two G units for each cabin unit. (diagram 1)
2. With RST, sew a F1 piece to a F2 piece: repeat this step to make 12
F units. You will need 4 F units for each cabin. (diagram 2)
3. With RST, sew one F unit to one side of the K piece (diagram 3a).
Sew a second F unit to the other side of the same K piece. (diagram
3b): repeat this step to make 6 FK units.
* Note: Be sure that when you are sewing your pieces/units
together you have the same color brown in the same position
horizontally. You are creating the effect of log siding on a cabin.
4. With RST, sew the L piece to a short side of the H piece; repeat this
step to make 3 LH units. (diagram 4)
5. With RST, sew a FK unit to a G unit: repeat this step to make 6 FKG
units. (diagram 5)
6. With RST, sew one FKG unit to one side of one LH unit: sew a
second FKG unit to the other side of the LH unit: repeat this step to
make 3 sets of this unit. (diagram 6)
7. Mark a 63 degree diagonal line from each of the bottom corners to
the top of the your J rectangle as shown. Cut on the marked lines,
creating a trapezoid J shape. Discard the two cut away pieces.

bottom right. You will use only the I and D portion
of each blue rectangle. (diagram 8). Repeat this
step to make 3 roof units.
9. With RST and aligning the diagonal raw edges, sew one blue triangle to each side
of the trapezoid J piece. (diagram 9, 10). Note: Some placement adjustment before
sewing and then some squaring up of the roof unit may be necessary.
10. With RST, sew piece A to B, then B to C. (diagram 11)
11. With RST, sew unit ABC to IJD unit: sew this combination unit to piece E. (diagram
12. Sew this combined unit to the FKGLH unit. Repeat to create the three cabins.
