Dear Parents, This is our final newsletter this year and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support this year. I was hoping to bring you news of staffing for next year however this is still to be confirmed. Please look out for a note in bags as I will let you all know as soon as I have news. At the moment we have a role of 52 for next session so it looks as though the classes will stay the same as this session: P1/2, P3/4 and P5/6/7. Miss Laidlaw New P1 The first two weeks for the New P1 after the summer holidays will be shorter days. Children can be collected from school at 12.30pm or can stay for a school dinner/packed lunch and be collected at 1pm. All children in P1-3 are entitled to a Free School Dinner. The New P1 from Monday 5th September will attend school during the normal hours of 9.00 to 2.30pm. ‘The Magic Flute’ – Lyth Arts Centre – Monday 13th June We are going to Lyth Arts Centre to see a performance called ‘The Magic Flute’. The Bus will leave school at 9.40am and return for 11am. Children will have a later break. Please if you have not already done so return the permission slip with payment. Thanks. Dunnet Forest and Beach – Whole School end of Year Trip – Wednesday 29th July We are going to Dunnet Forest and Beach for our school trip this year. We will be visiting the Sea Drift Centre, Forest and Beach. We have arranged to have our lunch in the Village Hall at Dunnet. Attached is the Packed Lunch Choices for our Trip. These need to be returned to Mrs Jack in the Kitchen before 20th June. page 1 of 4 Swimming Lessons P3-P7 Swimming Lessons for P3 – P7 continues on Friday mornings. Please remember to have children at school with swimming kit by 8.50am for a 9.00am departure. The last swimming day will be Friday 24th June. Sharing Assemblies The last sharing assembly for this term will be on Friday 17th June for Nursery. All parents are welcome to attend these assemblies. Please note that due to swimming, the time for Assembly will now be 11.30 am- 12.10 pm. In-set Day Inset Day – Monday 6th June – School Closed to Pupils Last Day – Friday 1st July The School will close for the Summer Holidays at 12.10pm. Lunch will be available at 11.30am. The choices will be Fish and Chips or Burger. Please if you would like a lunch on the last day make sure that you order this before Friday 10 th June for Mrs Jack to complete her order. Opening of the Outside Door Children will no longer be answering the door. Even if a child sees and knows the person they can’t answer it. This is due to health and safety. An adult will open the door for everyone. Please try and restrict times to 9.15- 2.30 pm Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri when we have Mrs Smith in the office. You will not be guaranteed entry at any other time as it would require teachers to leave their classroom to answer the door. We appreciate your support in reducing the impact on learning and teaching time. Wig Wednesday The children all looked fantastic in their wigs. They had great fun doing the activities, guessing how many coins, designing a wig and decorating a biscuit whilst raising money for a great cause (CLIC Sargent). The total amount raised was £93.20. Science Festival – What I want to be when I grow up Caitlyn Fitszimmons’ picture was chosen from the ones displayed in the medical centre. She was given a lovely prize of a real stethoscope. Well done Caitlyn. School Picnic Lunch Please see attached choices sheet for ordering your packed lunch. Please tick your choices and return with payment to Mrs Jack. If you get the newsletter via email this is in your child’s bag. Open Morning and Sports Day – Thursday 9th June Our open morning will commence at 9.15am with a presentation in the Hall until 9.45am when you can then move freely between the classes and join in with their learning. There will be refreshments in the hall from 10.30am to 11am for parents. We will have an early lunch at 12pm, thank you to the parents who have returned their lunch slip and we look forward to having you join us for lunch. Sports day will start at 1pm. Please remember this will mean a 3pm finish for all P1-P7. 20 MPH Sign – Heading into Keiss from Auckengill We have been made aware that the 20mph Sign heading into Keiss from Auckengill is not working (Flashing). We have reported this on several occasions. Complete Form. Zig Zag Lines Just a reminder to parents/carers that you must not park on or opposite the Zig Zag Lines when dropping off or picking up children or when attending events in school. Parent council have secured funding from the Greencoat Stroupster Community Fund administered by Foundation Scotland. They have been awarded £920. Details of what the Parent Council have decided to use this money for is below. ‘Funded by the Greencoat Stroupster Community Fund administered by Foundation Scotland’ Parent Council Section Hello everyone We thought it would be good for everyone to have a brief summary of what the Parent Council have been working on/towards. We welcome any fundraising ideas and are always seeking new members to join our team. We are working alongside the school to raise funds for outdoor play equipment. We are currently sourcing funds to help with this. We have recently been allocated some funding from the Stroupster Windfarm Group which enables us to donate towards the cost of buses for swimming, school trips, etc. The cost of buses is high and the parent council contribute to this wherever possible. We are sourcing several funding streams and if anyone has any further ideas of where funding can be sourced – please feel free to contact either Gillian Begg (Secretary) on [email protected] or Lesley Richard (Chairperson) on [email protected] Our next fundraiser is going to be 5K family fun run. This will be held at The Stroupster Windfarm on Sunday 19 th June with a starting time of 11am. Please see attached information regarding, again this will be in your child’s bag if your receive your newsletter via e-mail. We have decided on an entrance fee per family, rather than per individual. This event can be run or walked and is ONLY for the children of Keiss Primary School & Nursery, sibling out with this age group, Parents & Grandparents. R Begg Electrical Services have very kindly agreed to sponsor the event and have donated trophies/medals towards it. All children aged P7 and below that walk/run the event will receive a medal.
