There have now been a number of terrible events happen in our
Country over the last few weeks, Manchester and London.
Durham is proud to stand with you and support you! We would
like to pass on our thoughts to all of those involved in the attacks
and to the families and friends effected.
As officers in the Cohesion Unit we have been out and about
talking to our communities and offering support and
reassurance. We have been to many local events, Community
gatherings and general drop ins and walkabouts talking with and
supporting communities. Some of our Durham Police have also
been helping out in both areas effected by the tragedies.

15th-20th May was Dementia
Awareness week at Beamish
Museum. The team had a good
time joining in with Beamish
and the Alzheimer's Society staff
as well as visitors from schools,
care homes and anyone else
that was around throughout the
week.
There was singing, dancing and
treasure hunts amongst the
activities. The music included
sessions from Singing for the
Brain and some local folk music
which the children from local
schools taking part to entertain
and enjoyed it very much.

The Herbert Protocol has seen its first success after a man
from Pelton who suffers from dementia went missing and
was quickly located.
PC Steve Brown and PC Dan Beardmore from Pelton
Neighbourhood Policing Team were able to quickly obtain
personal information about the man, including his picture
and the places he was likely to go.
Not only were the individual’s family free from stress and
trauma, it also saved a huge amount of police time and
resources searching for him.
The Herbert Protocol is a proactive tool to support
vulnerable adults from going missing, but also to provide a
systematic and joint community approach to locating them
if they do. To sign up call 101 or email
