May Newsletter Dear Parent/Carer, What a glorious start to our summer term. The sunshine somehow makes everything seem brighter and we have so much to look forward to over the next few weeks, I am sure that it will be a happy, hardworking term for us all. With the hot weather upon us so early this year, however, it is important to remember sun hats and sunscreen every day. Hot meals We finally have a starting date for hot lunches! We are hoping to be up and running for Monday 4th June. Menus will go home in plenty of time so that children can choose their meals for the following month. Based on the 75+ requests we have received for a hot meal, we have ordered special folding seating (see below) for the hall and SCS have employed a member of staff to transport and serve the meals. More details will follow very shortly but for the time being, attached to this letter is a very eloquent plea from Joseph Mills for your child to have a hot lunch. This letter formed part of a unit of work on persuasive writing – well done, Joseph! Readathon We would like to thank all parents and carers who supported children with our Readathon. We raised a grand total of £256.45! Kenyan Visitors We were lucky enough to have in school over the last two weeks, Madame Jessicah, headteacher of our link school in Mudindi, Kenya. Jessicah took part in a range of excursions including a visit to Lyme Regis and our very own Beetledrive! The visit was part of a wider project involving Meare, Crispin, Catcott and, Ashcott. Some of our children took part in related activities at Crispin and we now have some new Kenyan songs to practise . School Council requests Our conscientious School Council have asked me to mention that many children are wearing inappropriate jewellery to school. Please ensure that only stud earrings are worn and no necklaces or bracelets. Football Superstars Our football team played St. Benedicts last week and scored an admirable 3 goals. it was a great game and although St. Benedicts won 4-3, our players were a credit to us and did brilliantly in their first official game and against many older players. Well done! Many thanks to Mr McCabe and Mr Bradlford who give up their time to run the team. After School Clubs The Schoolfriend After school club is still on track for September – we will keep you posted! Current after school clubs are going strong and we will review them at half term with a possibility of a tennis club, a Spanish club and an album-making club in the pipeline. Knitting club will be finishing at half term and Vicky Kingham would like to thank everyone involved in this project. Wake and Shake! YMCA seems to be a huge success but we still have a small number of children who are not joining in. We ask that all children take part as this is a whole school activity during curriculum time. Car wash Some of our older pupils have organised a Car wash on the school playground on 24th May from 3pm until 5pm. This is the children’s initiative in order to raise funds for teaching resources in Mudindi. Please come along and support the children in this wonderful venture and have your car washed for only £2! NB: The car wash in aid of the wildlife area as advertised by the children earlier this week is NOT taking place on Saturday but will go ahead later in the term. Walk to School Wednesday We are organising a ‘Walk to School Wednesday’ on Wednesday 13th June. We hope that this will raise the profile of our walking bus and encourage more people to walk to school. We look forward to seeing the children back in school on Tuesday 8th. Enjoy the break!
