Postcards to Papa
Annemarie lives in the capital of Denmark. Create a
poster, PowerPoint, or some other visual to tell all
about Denmark. Include 10 country facts such as
capital, motto, flower, nickname, etc. Also include 10
key facts about the agriculture, climate, location,
topography, and other important information.
Finally, include 10 fun facts about Denmark – things
that you found interesting in your research.
Letters were a common form of communication.
Design four postcards written from various characters.
Use information from the book to help with your
dialogue (think friendly letters). The front side of
your postcards should include a full-color picture. The
back side of your postcards should include at least one
paragraph of correspondence and mailing addresses.
Design an original postage stamp as well.

Coming Attraction!
Number the Stars is a Newbery Award Book. Find a
Number the Stars is becoming a movie, and you are
list of all the Newbery winning books in the library or
on the Internet. Tell why Newberry Awards are given.
List 15 books and authors that won the Newbery
Medal and give the year that they won. Find out
which three books won the honor medal in the same
year that Number the Stars won the gold medal.

the stars who will be playing them. A large illustration
of a major scene should be a major component as
well. Include a one-paragraph synopsis of the movie.
World War II
Jewish Cookbook
Annemarie and her family helped Jews during World
War II. Choose a group or country from World War II
and do some research. Create a PowerPoint, mobile,
or other visual to give us the important information.
Be sure to include who (your group/country was),
what (role they played), why (they were so
important), and how (they had an impact on the war).
You should have information for a 2 minute speech.
Ellen’s mother cooked interesting dishes for her
family’s celebrations. Create a cookbook with at least
ten recipes for Jewish dishes like the ones Ellen’s mom
might make. One recipe should be on each page, and
should include a full-color picture (can be drawn).
Include the following: at least two appetizers, three
side dishes, three main courses, and two desserts.
Create an original cover for your cookbook.
