‘TRAIN ON’ SQUAD / U23 ASSISTANT COACH POSITION DESCRIPTION Name: Reports to: High Performance Manager Date: Dec 2013 Location: Christchurch PURPOSE: To increase the quality and depth of players for the Tactix Train On squad and the Netball Mainland (NM) U23 team. To assist with the development of players, so that they can transition seamlessly into the Tactix if and when required. Position: The Assistant Coach will assist the Head Coach with the coaching and preparation of the Tactix Train On Squad and Netball Mainland U23 team. The U23 national competition for 2014 will take place in conjunction with the NZAG U19 Championships in Dunedin July 7 - 10. Netball Mainland will cover all reasonable and related expenses for an expected period of approximately 9 months from December 2013 until August 2014. The position is a potential pathway for a coach with higher aspirations. Achieving success Develop the quality and depth of players to enable their seamless transition into The Tactix if and when required. EXPECTED RESULTS (KPI’S) Assist the Head Coach with the development of the plan and programme for the Train On squad 1 – 2 players are capable of being contracted into the Tactix annually as decided by NM HP Manager Perform successfully in the National U23 Championships The U23 team achieves a top 3 position in the National U23 Championships 2. Build Quality Player Depth Tactix coaches report that Train On /U23 players are demonstrating the expected requirements for high performance Utilise and maximise available resources to ensure the individual players are developing technically, tactically, physically and mentally to transition to the next level if and when required. Assist Head Coach with the development of IPPs Coaches meet informally 4 – 6 weekly with Tactix coaches to discuss programme and player progress NM Selection Panel report increased player depth in Netball Mainland’s player pathway and competition for places in the NM U23 Team. 3. U23 Team Selection In conjunction with NM Selection Panel assist with the selection of players for the U23 Team Attend key events and activities in a selecting role such as: Tactix training sessions, Christchurch Netball Centre and NM competitions and ANZ Championship games – 2 tickets for CHCH home games will be provided. Other events and activities as agreed Demonstrate understanding and compliance with selection policies as determined by NM 4. Alignment Build and strengthen relationships with Franchise, Zone and Centre coaches. Evidence of positive relationships with a high level of 2 way communication established and maintained Attend NM functions as requested 5. Professional Development Actively seeks coach development opportunities Currently involved or working towards NNZ Performance Coach Award Attend and actively participate in NM and/or NNZ coach development activities 6. Other Relationships Positive image expressed in media and with sponsors. Act in a professional manner and build relationships with umpiring personnel, media, sponsors and other NM personnel High level of trust in the ability of the coach to act in a professional manner at all times and respect confidentiality aspects of the role. Demonstrates a willingness to engage in professional development Experience, Coaching & Specialist Knowledge 1. Has previously coached at Regional representative level, (minimum Under 21) and/or coached or been Assistant Coach at NZAGC level for a minimum of 2 years. 2. Demonstrates a very good level understanding of the technical and tactical requirements of each playing position and area of court. 3. Assists with the selection of the starting line and substitutions for each game to ensure they are consistent with individual and team performances. 4. Assists with developing player performances in competition and training by: Creating an environment that supports players to remain confident and focused throughout the training and competition. Providing activities and practices that enhance the player’s technical and tactical development while also helping players to be able to adapt and change within the training and competition environment. Developing & practicing game strategies to enhance strengths of own team and expose weaknesses in opposition teams. Encouraging players to set individual training and competition goals 5. Encourages leadership in players and for them to have input into, and take ownership of their development and their performance 6. Uses technology and appropriate data to improve performance Planning & Organisation 1. Training sessions are well structured, maximizing usage of time and resources available. 2. Compiles written player profiles for various stages of the programme. 3. Demonstrates ability to integrate all aspects of sports science into training programmes. 4. Has a process to review coaching and implement improvements and changes when required. 5. Completion and submission of reports to the Canterbury Regional Manager and HP Manager as and when required. Building Relationships, Netball Mainland Brand & Profile 1. Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with, and is accessible to The Tactix Team Management, Netball Mainland Board, CEO & staff. 2. Provides assistance so that players and management understand the importance of the players being considered role models, and that the brand and profile of the players, management, Team and Netball Mainland are portrayed positively in the media and publicly. 3. Accessible to and acts in a professional manner when working with the Media. 4. Shares best practice coaching experiences with other Zone and Centre Coaches as appropriate or when required. 5. Establishes and maintains professional working relationships with umpires
