Wilson is one of the top rated middle-infielders in the east according to Baseball America and is the fourth player from Alabama to ever be selected to play in the national East versus West all-star contest. Played annually at Isotopes Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the All-American Baseball Game presented by PlayStation highlights the nation’s most anticipated prep baseball prospects, many of which will be selected in the first three rounds of the 2007 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft. The game will be played on Monday, June 4, 2007. Wilson, who is verbally committed to play at Alabama next year, first caught the eye of the nation when he appeared on MTV’s Two-a-Days reality series. He finished the 2006 high school football season as one of the top football players in Alabama. In addition, Wilson was nominated to play quarterback in the famed U.S. Army All-American Bowl, the nation’s top high school football all-star game. Wilson, s the second of four Alabama preps to be selected to play in this year’s All-American Baseball Game. He was presented his official game jersey during a special selection ceremony today at Hoover High School before his teammates, family, and select members of his student body. Tonight, Wilson will be recognized by the Birmingham Barons, Class A club of the Chicago Whitesox, during a special pre-game ceremony. The All-American Baseball Game Selection Tour will announce two more additional All-Americans from Alabama in the coming weeks. “Ross Wilson is one of the most solid high school athletes I’ve seen in a long time,” said John Schmid, Player Personnel director for the All-American Baseball Game and the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. “He has the rare combination of strength, speed, versatility, and maturity. It should come as to surprise to anyone who knows Ross that he should receive such an honor today. We are excited about watching him play in this year’s contest and following him throughout his career.” The Hoover High School two-sport standout will arrive in Albuquerque on June 2nd to take part in a variety of events designed to celebrate his achievements as a high school student athlete. During the All-American weekend, athletes will take part in a ‘skills day’ which includes a homerun derby, fastest to first contest, and a variety of other competitions. On the eve of the game, the All-Americans will attend the All-American Baseball Game Awards Banquet where the PlayStation National Player of the Year Award will be given out to America’s most outstanding high school baseball player. The All-American Baseball Game presented by PlayStation has produced four unforgettable contests that have featured numerous MLB 1 st round draft picks. All-American Baseball Game Alumni are represented in many of Major League Baseball’s organizations as well as in college baseball’s top programs. The All-American Baseball Game has already seen the top picks play for teams such as the New York Yankees, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, Kansas City Royals, Texas Rangers, San Francisco Giants, and Seattle Mariners. Among the game’s alumni are several first round MLB draft choices, including Lastings Milledge (OF) of the New York Mets, Blake DeWitt (SS) of the Los Angles Dodgers, and Eric Duncan (1B) and CJ Henry (OF) of the New York Yankees. In 2004, alumnus Mike Rozier (P) signed with the Boston Red Sox, earning him the 2nd highest signing bonus in club history. 2003 alumnus, Andrew Miller (P), went on to become Baseball America's College Player of the Year at the University of North Carolina and was drafted 6th overall by Detroit Tigers in 2006 draft.
