UIBE has 77 student clubs open to both Chinese and international students, which have held
hundreds of multicultural activities on campus, such as the International Culture Festival,
Ambassadors Forum, and Global Village Week. And, each year, UIBE invites hundreds of leaders of
governments and international organizations, senior scholars from leading universities or
institutions, and CEOs of multinational corporations to give lectures and seminars on global issues.

The University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), founded in 1951, is a
multi-disciplinary and national key university with economics, management, law, literature
and science as its core academic areas of expertise. Since its foundation, UIBE has been
steadfast in living up to its motto of “Erudition, Honesty, Endeavor and Perfection” through
constant diligence and innovation.
At present, UIBE consists of 15 academic schools, a Graduate School, a Department of
Physical Education and a Department of Culture and Art, offering over 1405 undergraduate
courses, 875 postgraduate courses, and 109 doctoral courses.
In 1989, UIBE became the first university in China to have a Board of Trustees, with its
members from the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (predecessor of the
Ministry of Commerce), state-owned international trading companies, Chinese Customs, the
Bank of China, the People’s Insurance Company of China, and the Hong Kong Chamber of
Commerce. Mr. LI Lanqing, the former Vice–Premier of the State Council, took the chair for
its first session, and Ms. WU Yi, the former Vice-Premier of the State Council, chaired the
Board for its second session.
UIBE plays a leading role in the development of international alliance with universities
around the world. Currently, UIBE has established partnerships with over 160 overseas
universities and international organizations.

1951 UIBE was founded as the Senior Business
School for Business Leaders under the leadership of
the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic
Cooperation and the Ministry of Education in
China.
Confucius Institutes
Up to 2015, UIBE has established 9 Confucius Institutes located in Japan, Russia, Greece,
Mexico, the United States, Brazil, Malawi, the United Kingdom and Australia.

1954 UIBE was renamed as Beijing Foreign Trade
Institute and the first group of international
students enrolled.
When founded in 1951, UIBE quickly took the leading role in China in terms of research and
education in international trade and economics, acting as a magnet for China's finest trade experts.
Today, UIBE has over 115 research institutes and centers.
UIBE actively works together with ministries, public and private corporations and international
organizations. Its partners include the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development
(UNCTAD), the World Trade Organization (WTO), the European Union (EU), Asia-Pacific Economic
Cooperation (APEC), the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA).
UIBE annually hosts approximately 30 international symposiums and workshops, publishes
hundreds of books, textbooks, multimedia materials, thesis and journals. In 2014, UIBE faculty has
published 186 books and 1752 academic papers.
1960 UIBE was designated as a key university by
the Chinese government for its outstanding
academic programs.
1984 UIBE was renamed as the University of
International Business and Economics.
1989 UIBE became the first university in China to
have a Board of Trustees.
Global cooperation and exchange
1997 UIBE was added onto the list of "Project 211"
universities, a governmental program that aims at
turning 100 Chinese universities into high-quality
academic institutions in the 21st century.
UIBE attaches great importance to international cooperation and exchange. It has established formal
partnerships with 165 overseas universities and international organizations. Collaborating with its
overseas partners, UIBE prepares globally-ready students through academic exchange programs and a
myriad of cultural exchanges. In 2014, over 1003 UIBE students participated in overseas exchanges.
And about one third of UIBE undergraduates are accepted each year by the Masters or Ph.D.
programs of prestigious universities overseas.
2000 UIBE merged with the China Institute of
Finance and Banking and became one of the
universities under direct leadership of the Ministry
of Education.
International students
2010 UIBE announced the establishment of its
Education Foundation through which it accepts
donations.
UIBE offers a wide range of academic programs leading to bachelor, master and Ph.D.
degrees in economics, business administration, law, linguistics and science. Such programs
as International Trade, International Economic Law, English and International Business
Management have been designated as key programs under "Project 211".
2010 The Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry
of Education signed an agreement to jointly
support UIBE.
Besides academic degree programs, UIBE also offers professional degree programs, distance
learning programs, and executive development programs for Chinese and foreign
government officials, business executives and professionals, and etc..
With its first international student enrolled in 1954, UIBE is one of the first in China to accept
international students. Nowadays, it is home for 3334 international students from over 148
countries and regions around the globe.
Chinese language teaching and cultural exchange worldwide
UIBE is the home of the International Business Chinese Language Teaching and Resource
Development Center (Beijing). Under the leadership of China Headquarters of Confucius Institutes,
UIBE actively promotes Chinese language education and cultural exchange abroad. It trains instructors,
publishes textbooks and e-teaching materials, organizes cross-cultural activities, conferences and
workshops in and outside China, educates students and organizes HSK and BCT tests.
UIBE is also home of the Beijing Center, a program primarily set up for American students studying
in China. The center has the biggest collection of books in English about China in the city.
