Section A: Plan of Action chalked out in the beginning of the year towards quality enhancement
(attach separate sheet if required)
Academic
 To earmark the year 2013 – 2014 as the Year of PROGRESS.
 To update and revise the curriculum and syllabus for the succeeding period
 To design the curriculum for BCA and to get it approved by the Academic Council.

Infrastructure
 CC Cameras have been fixed at vantage points to tighten security measures.
 A large format display monitor has been set up at Miss Paterson Hall.
 The college playground has gained an additional facility, an indoor stadium.

1. Activities during 2013-2014 reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution:
 An awareness rally was arranged on September 16, 2013, the ‘World Ozone day’,
by the Research Department of Chemistry.
 The Equal Opportunity Cell of our college organized an ‘Anti-Ragging Meet’
sponsored by the Government of Tamilnadu to create awareness among students
about the legal implications of ragging on July 30, 2013.
 The National Mathematics Day was celebrated on 21stJanuary, 2014.Competitions
were conducted both for teaching and Non –teaching staff. Inter –Departmental
competitions were also conducted for the students.
 A Group of faculty members was given a one-day Retraining Programme on
‘Journey to Greatness’ by IQAC on October 5, 2013.Dr. Jeyakar Chellaraj,
Executive Director, IMPART from Trichirappalli, delivered a lecture on soft

skills for better teaching. The day’s programme was highly refreshing and
rewarding.
 Students were given orientation in academic and non-academic opportunities
open for the enrichment of personal and academic skills through participation and
involvement in various clubs and cells functioning inside the campus.
 Mr. Jegan, from Fynnsoft, Chennai, delivered an impressive lecture on ‘Lifestyle
Pattern’ for the students on August 22, 2013. The Placement Cell conducted an
awareness programme under the aegis of ‘TIME’ for the benefit of our students
on August 24, 2013.
 The Teachers’ Day on September 5, 2013 was celebrated in a novel manner.
Class-room role play by students made it lively and meaningful. It was followed
by entertainment and the students gave surprise gifts to the staff members.
 The NCC Unit of our college took up a voluntary tree plantation drive inside the
college campus on October 8, 2013 to create awareness on Global Warming.
 Cancer Awareness Rally was conducted by the NCC of Sarah Tucker College on
October 5, 2013. Anti Tobacco Rally was conducted by the NCC of Sarah Tucker
College on October 12, 2013.
 The inaugural function for the 6 units of NSS of our college was held on October
11, 2013, the International Day of the Girl Child, with the inaugural address of
Dr. N. Rajalingam, NSS Programme Coordinator, Manonmaniam Sundaranar
University.
 Mrs. Alice Kalavathy, NSS Programme Officer along with volunteers from Unit
15 attended a programme on legal aid available for mentally retarded people on
October 31, 2013 at the District Court Campus, Tirunelveli.
2. New Academic Programmes Initiated (UG & PG):
Curriculum for BCA course is approved by the Academic council.
3. Innovations in Curricular Design and Transaction:
As per the norms of Autonomy Boards of Studies for all the Departments met to
review and modify their syllabus after the tenure of three years.
4. Inter disciplinary Programmes Started:

5. Examination Reforms Implemented:
 Proof reading of semester question papers for all UG and
PG courses are being done by external examiners.
 Examination dates, especially for arrear subjects are
fixed for the convenience of the students to the maximum
extent possible to write the exams well.
 Answer sheets containing 30 pages are given to the
students to write the semester exams.
 After the publication of the semester examination results,
if the pass percentage of the students is very low, the
concerned teachers are asked to take special coaching
classes for the failures.
 Software packages were installed in Visual Studio 2010
as front end and SQL server 2008 as backend. Using the
above software the following works are being done:
1. Students registration,
2. Semester registration,
3. Nominal roll,
4. Examination Hall tickets,
5. Individual semester mark statements,
6. Consolidated mark statement,
7. Conversion of marks,
8. Transfer Certificates and
9. Publication of results.
This practice assures maintenance of secrecy of the marks
statements and elimination of any scope for misuse.

Mrs Aruna, Assistant Professor of Food Science cleared NET.
7. Initiative Towards Faculty Development Programme:

A Retraining Programme for a team of Faculty members on ‘JOURNEY TO
GREATNESS’ was organised by IQAC ON 5th October, 2013.

A Three Day Orientation Programme for Faculty Members was organized from
06.05.2014 to 08.05.2014.The newly recruited staff members of our college and
St.John’s college participated in it. The programme was inaugurated by
Rt.Rev.J.J. Christdass, Bishop in Tirunelveli. Experienced faculty members from
various reputed institutions served as resource persons.
8. Total Number of Seminars/ Workshops Conducted:

A Group of faculty members was given a one-day Retraining Programme on

One day workshop on ‘HEALTH HEED’ was organized by the PG Department of
Zoology on28th February,2014

A one-day workshop on ‘Teaching to speak and write Tamil without mistakes’
was organized by the Research Department of Tamil on September 19, 2013. Dr.
V. Manickam(Retd.) Head of the Department of Tamil from St. John’s College
and Dr. Arivarasan (Retd.) Head of the Department of Tamil from Paramakalyani
College, Alwarkurichi were the guest speakers.

A state level workshop was hosted by the Research Department of English on
‘Development of Soft Skills’ on October 4, 2013. Dr. Jeyakar Chellaraj,
Executive Director, IMPART from Trichirappalli, Principal of Bishop Heber
College (Retd.), Tiruchirapalli was the Guest speaker.

A programme on ‘Catch `em Young’ was conducted for the students on October
5, 2013 by Mrs. Vennila and Miss. Jenifa from the Research Department of
English.

The Department of Physics organized a one-day National Seminar on ‘Recent
Trends in Material Science’ on October 18, 2013. Dr. P. Thilakan, Associate
Professor of Physics, Pondicherry University was the guest speaker.

A one-day National Seminar on ‘Women Rights and Protective Strategies’ was
organized by the Department of History on October 23, 2013. Dr. R. Suresh from
Iqbal College, Kerala and Dr. R. Rajalingam from S.T. Hindu College, Nagercoil
delivered the keynote address and the presidential address respectively.

Sundari, the NSS Programme officer for the Unit 17 on September 14, 2013.

With the blessing from heaven above, the college playground has gained an
additional facility, an indoor stadium with the UGC fund. A large format display
monitor has been set up at Miss Paterson Hall and thus converting it into a
sophisticated Conference hall. CC Cameras have been fixed at vantage points in
order to tighten security measures.

28. Computer and Internet Access and Training to Teachers, Non Teaching Staff and
students
A Retraining Programme for Non- Teaching Staff was organized on 31st
January 2014 were in Mr. Daniel Rajadurai, Former Superintendent of our
college spoke on the importance of filing, stacking and maintaining accounts.
29. Financial Aid to Students:
Earn While You Learn
The college recognizes the basic needs of our students and their potential role
in community development. Every year our management liberally contributes Rs.
10,000 for this scheme under which students is encouraged to work in their
respective departments and libraries and is paid for their services. 28 students have
been benefited under this scheme.
30. Activities and Support from the Alumnae Association:
The Annual Get together of the Alumnae association was held on 15th March 2014.
The 1964 batch of students of our college were honoured on the prestigious occasion
of their Golden Jubilee. They remained their past glorious experiences with fond
memory inside the campus of their Alma Matter with great enthusiasm.

31. Activities and Support from PTA
The Parent Teacher Meet was held on 27.06.2013. When the fresher entered the portals
of our college, they were given instructions regarding the rules and regulations of the
college and the hostel. The address of the parents along with their telephone number and
signature was also collected on that day.
32. Health Services:
 A Camp for Health check-up for the staff and students was conducted by
the Food Science and Nutrition Department of our college on 8th March,
2014.
 A Government Voters Awareness Camp for the students was conducted
on 26th March 2014. Our District Collector, Dr. Karunakaran delivered
the Keynote address on ‘Voter’s Right’ and the moral responsibilities of a
good citizen of India.
33. Performance in Sports Activities:
Our college students made excellent performance in sports and extra-curricular
activities. Our Volley ball team members T Diana of III B A English and Usha of II
B Sc Zoology were selected for Regional level Chief Ministers’ Trophy conducted at
Madurai. Our students got the fourth place in the MS University Inter-collegiate
Volley ball Tournament held at Holy Cross college, Nagercoil on 10th & 11th Oct.
2013. T Diana was selected as a University Blue of the Volley ball team. Our college
Hockey team won the third place and a Cash award of Rs. 400/- each, in the
District level Chief Ministers’ Trophy. Thanga Banu of III B Com, Indu &

II B Sc Nano Science were selected for Regional level Hockey
Tournament and won the Second position and were also selected as University
Blues. Two members of the Hockey team, Indumathi and Karthiga were selected
for State level Chief Ministers’ Trophy. Our Hockey team won the Inter collegiate
Hockey Tournament held at Sivanthi Adithanar college of Physical Education on
19th Dec. 2013.

35. Student Achievements and Awards:

The Department of Chemistry of Sri. Parasakthi College, Courtallam conducted
an Intercollegiate competition on August 30, 2013. Students of Chemistry
Department
of our College participated and won prizes. In Rangoli,
V.SwornaGeetha Kanmani and S.Subbulakshmi of III B.Sc Chemistry got the
first prize. In model making competition R.Mahalakshmi and R.Sajitha of III
B.Sc Chemistry got the first prize. In grain carpet competition,M.Nambi Nachiar
and S.Anantha Aruna Devi of III B.Sc Chemistry got the first prize. It was a
cheerful occasion for our college to win the overall shield among the 8 colleges
which participated.

Rajalakshmi of M.Phil. Tamil, participated and won I prize in Thirukural
Competition conducted by Thiruvalluvar Kazhagam, Alwarkurichy.

SUVADUGAL’13, an Intercollegiate Competition was held at Lady Doak
College, Madurai on August 31, 2013. In Elocution Competition (Tamil), Vincy
Flora.S of I M.A English secured
II place and got a memento and certificate.
21 students participated in various competitions and got participation certificates.

Our college students A. Amala Jeya Ranchani of III B.Sc Physics(S/F), R.Steffi
and S.Smiley Gracelin of I MCA participated and presented papers in
‘SUNWINS’ Intercollegiate Paper Presentation organised by Mepco Schlenk
Engineering college, Sivakasi on October 1, 2013.

As part of Wild Life Week Celebrations, our student M.Indhu of I B.Sc Chemistry
participated and bagged II Prize in elocution competition. M.Indhu of I B.Sc
Chemistry also won I prize in Essay Writing and III Prize in Elocution at the
competition conducted during the Co-Operative Society Week Celebrations at
district level.
36. Activities of the Guidance and Counseling Unit:
A one day workshop on ‘Relationships’ was arranged by the Coordinators of the
SMART Cell of our College, Mrs. Suganthi of Physics Department and Mrs. Jothi of
Commerce Department on 14th March, 2014. Mrs and Mr. Joel, Counsellors from
Chennai shared valuable and practical remedies to many issues related to relationships.

37. Placement Services Provided to students
The Placement Cell conducted Bank Coaching classes, National skill development
programmes (NSDC), orientation programmes and awareness programmes. The
final year students got the opportunity of participating in workshops, training
programmes and Campus interviews. Nearly 10 students got placed in various
companies like, Tech Mahandra, defrank group, Tech Unity Software, Vodapone at
Chennai and Jegan Research Associates.
38. Development programmes for Non- Teaching Staff.
A Retraining Programme for Non- Teaching Staff was organized on 31st
January 2014 were in Mr. Daniel Rajadurai, former Superintendent of our

Dr.Jasmine Mathialagan, Principal of our college attended an International
Conference at Brisbane, Australia, from November 27 to November 29, 2013
and presented a paper on ‘The Alterity of Immigrant Community’.

Dr.Juliet Vanitharani, Associate Professor of Zoology presented a paper on ‘Bats
the key indicator of habitat quality’ and a poster presentation on ‘A Pilot
Acoustics Survey on Bat Community of Western Ghats, India using Various
Ultrasonic Detectors’ at the 16th International Bat Research conference at
Costa Rica, America from August 11 to August 15, 2013.

Dr.J.Nirmala, Associate Professor of Economics attended an International
Conference of IUAES at Manchester University, United Kingdom from August 5
to August 10, 2013 and presented a paper on ‘Sericulture as livelihood support
and micro financing for sericulture development in India, in panel PE12:Micro
financing and rural poverty reduction’.

Dr.M.S.Thangam, Associate Professor of History presented a paper on ‘Cultural
survival of the self determined, mobile Narikkurawar in Tirunelveli, South India
in MMM07 migration and indigenious peoples’ at an International Conference
of IUAES, Manchester University, United Kingdom from August 5 to August 10,
2013.

 The Institution appeared for NAAC Re-Accreditation and obtained ‘A’ grade.
 Inauguration of Indoor stadium.
 Up gradation of the PG Chemistry department into a Research Center.
