CALL FOR PAPERS
The Mathematical Society of the Philippines (MSP) - Region 9 Chapter invites you to
participate in its 5th Regional Convention and Seminar-Workshop which will be held on June
6-7, 2014 at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University, La Purisima St., Zamboanga City.
Invited as plenary speakers are Dr. Ian June Garces, a faculty member of the Ateneo de Manila
University and former coach of the Philippine delegates for the International Math Olympiad;
Mr. Johnny Amora, statistician/consultant of De La Salle College of Saint Benilde; and Dr.
Lorna Almocera, MSP-Cebu president and faculty of the University of the Philippines-Cebu
City.
The seminar-workshops primarily aim to enhance teachers’mathematical skills in solving nonroutine worded problems including some Philippine Mathematical Olympiad questions and to
keep abreast of the updates and implications of K to12, among others.
Researchers and educators in all areas of pure and applied mathematics, mathematics education,
statistics and other related areas are invited to submit short papers for oral presentation during
the convention. Graduate, undergraduate, high school students, and all Mathematics enthusiasts
are also welcome to join.
Dates and Venues:
The conference will be held on Friday and Saturday, 6-7 June 2014, at the Ateneo de
Zamboanga University, La Purisima St., Zamboanga City. The convention will start at 8:00 a.m.
of June 6, 2014.
If you wish to give a contributed talk, please send your title and abstract to
[email protected] and/or [email protected] on or before 8 May 2014. The
program committee shall review requests for contributed talks. You will receive a notification of
acceptance/non-acceptance on or before 15 May 2014.
Registration:
All participants are requested to pre-register on or before 8 May 2014.
Accomplished reply slips/registration forms should be sent to [email protected] or
[email protected] together with the proof of payment of the registration fee
(i.e. photocopy or scanned image of bank deposit slip, postal money order slip, etc.).
Registration Fees are as follows:
Pre-registration on or before 16 May 2014: Two Thousand Three Hundred Pesos
(P2300.00). After 16 May 2014 and walk-ins: Two Thousand Six Hundred Pesos (P2600.00).
Student (Undergraduate and Secondary): One Thousand Three Hundred Pesos (P1300.00).
You will be considered pre-registered only upon confirmation of payment of your
conference fee.
These fees will defray the cost of conference kit, other conference expenses, snacks and
lunch for two (2) days.
Everyone is encouraged to register by 16 May 2014 since reservation for food and
printing of the convention materials have to be done in advance. There is no assurance
that those who registered after this date will enjoy all the privileges of the participants
who have registered early.
Payment: There are two modes of Payment (choose only one that is most comfortable)
1. Payment by postal money order should be addressed to Daisy M. Quisel, Convention

2. Alternatively, you can make a bank deposit to the following account:

Do not forget to submit a photocopy/e-copy of proof of payment along with your

Submission of Abstracts: Those who wish to contribute papers are requested to send the title
and abstract to Dr. Rochelleo E. Mariano at the email address [email protected]
and/or Mr. Dante V. Partosa at the email address [email protected]. Abstracts
(100-200 words) should be informative for proper evaluation by the program committee.
Electronic submission (both LaTeX and pdf file) is preferred. (Deadline: 8 May 2014)
