APPLESOX SET UP SERIES-WINNING OPPORTUNITY TO START HALF
The Wenatchee AppleSox (16-12, 1-0 second half), continue the series with the Kelowna Falcons (17-14, 0-4 second half) that
marks a fresh start in the standings for now first-place Wenatchee...the Kelowna Falcons just lost all three games in a Canadian
showdown with Victoria, at Kelowna...the AppleSox are playing their 18th franchise season (13th in the WCL) and are led by firstyear head coach, Kyle Krustangel (16-12) (.571), who has completed two years as the head coach at Yakima Valley College during
the NCAA regular season...Krustangel is assisted by Yakima’s Cash Ulrich and Riley Drongesen, both in their first seasons.
APPLESOX IMPROVE TO 9-1 IN GAME ONES, WIN EXTRA-INNING COMEBACK
The AppleSox took the early lead for starter Jacob Price, on an RBI double for Jake Taylor in the third inning off of James Brooks...
Brooks turned in a solid seven innings for Kelowna and only allowed a second run in the fourth inning on an RBI single for Dugan
Shirer. That single tied a 2-1 score, after Kelowna scored a pair in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI triple and RBI single...
The Falcons cashed-in a two-run home run in the fifth inning off of Mike Townsend to break the 2-2 tie...Taylor Wright clubbed his
WCL-leading eighth home run to deep right field in the seventh inning off of Cam Kurz...Kelowna led 5-2 through seven innings...
Wenatchee clawed back to tie in the eighth on a 2-RBI triple for Jordan Prendiz...he later scored on a wild pitch...after two scoreless
innings of relief, Connor Leedholm (3-0) led off the bottom of the tenth with a walk, and advanced first-to-third on a Prendiz single.
Cole McKenzie delivered a walkoff single in the next at bat to left field, to secure the 6-5 final.
TONIGHT’S NOTES
ALMOST A MONTH
EXACTLY
WINNING SERIES
The AppleSox nearly spaced their
two home walkoffs by exactly a
month...Parker Price hit a gamewinning RBI single for the AppleSox
in their only other walkoff win of the
season, June 8 versus the Victoria
HarbourCats in the team’s homeopener...Cole McKenzie delivered
29 days later on July 7, to win the
series-opener against Kelowna
last night...coincidentally the first
walkoff was the first of Wenatchee’s
nine-straight game-one wins, and
last night’s was to keep the streak
going.
SPEAKING OF GAME 1
Wenatchee is an outstanding 9-1 in
game ones this season and 5-0 at
home, wearing the traditional white
diamond logo uniforms.
With a series win tonight, the
AppleSox would surpass last year’s
season-series win mark of six...the
AppleSox tied the 2016 team’s mark
in the first half, after sweeping Port
Angeles.
HOME WINNING
STREAK
Wenatchee is now 13-3 at home, including non-league games, and has
won seven-straight home games
(four-consecutive in league play)...
the AppleSox 10-3 home record
(.769) is better than any other team
in the WCL...Walla Walla is second
with an 11-5 mark (.688).
CLOSE GAMES
No one in the WCL has played more
one-run games than the AppleSox
(12), who are 7-5 in those contests.
@applesox |
www.applesox.com |
JUST HOW STRONG IS
THE WCL NORTH?
Let’s put it this way...three of the
WCL’s top-record teams for the
season reside in the WCL North...
none of those three teams won the
first-half title in the North, and only
one of those three will make the
WCL Playoffs come August...seems
unfair.
WHERE THE RECORD
STANDS
Wenatchee’s 16-12 mark is the
third-best in the WCL...the only
teams with better records are
Corvallis (21-10) and Bellingham
(17-11)...Victoria, Walla Walla, and
Kelowna, have the next best overall
season records in the WCL...leaving
5-of-6 WCL North teams in the top-6
of the league standings.

SERIES HISTORY
The AppleSox have played the
most games all-time with the
Kelowna Falcons...all-time in WCL
play, Wenatchee leads the series
heavily at 69-27...Wenatchee is up
35-12 at home and 34-15 on the
road...Wenatchee has never lost
more than three-straight games in
the WCL series, spanning the entire length of the two teams’ WCL
existence (2005).
