Physical Activity for
Staff Meetings
Introducing physical activity at staff meetings is an effective way to increase staff understanding on how to
integrate physical activity into the school day.
These physical activity brain boosters provide 5-10 minute opportunities for increasing staff and student
physical activity. Once your staff has tried each activity, encourage them to go back and use with classes.
Encourage them to try other activity variations or navigate the provided websites and come back
to the next staff meeting with feedback.

October’s Physical Activity Brain Booster
Name of Activity: Active Rock Paper Scissors
 Description:
1. Partner up.
2. Have each person act out the following with their bodies:
 Rock: fold arms towards body and head down into a ball
 Paper: arms straight above head and straight legs together
 Scissors: arms apart above head and legs spread apart
3. Both partners turn their backs to each other and jog in place
4. On the count of 3, both partners turn and face each other choosing to form
with their bodies either a rock, paper, and/or scissors
5. Rock beats scissors; scissors beats paper; paper beats rock
6. Play the best of 3 games, switch partners, and try again
7. Discuss how you can use this with your students at school.
Name of Activity: SUM of numbers
 Description:
1. Partner up.
2. Both partners turn their backs to each other and jog in place
3. On the count of 3, both partners turn and face each other throwing out one hand.
On the hand, each person will show between 1 and 5 digits/fingers (never zero)
4. Whichever person says the “sum” first, wins that round.
5. Play the best of 3 games, switch partners, and try again
6. Discuss how you can use this with your students at school.
 Variations: multiplication; prime and composite numbers

Description: “Wake Up” is a short video to get you moving in the morning. It includes stretching
and breathing exercises.

You don’t have to be a great dance to have fun, as long as you are moving!

to create a dance routine.

 Description:
1. On the board, write…
 A= Jumping Jack
 B= squats
 C= speedbags
 D= hop on 1 foot
2. As a group, act out each option
3. Go through each review question having all participants act out A, B, C, or D
depending on which they believe is the correct answer. This is a great way to check
everyone’s knowledge
4. Review multiple choice questions examples:
 The capital of Georgia is:
o A) Savannah
o B) Macon
o C) Atlanta
o D) None of the above
 Which state has a climate suitable for growing citrus fruits?
o A) Maine
o B) California
o C) North Dakota

5. Discuss how you can use this with your students at school.
 Variations: Assign each corner of the room A, B, C, or D. Have participants move around the
room depending on which letter/corner they believe to be the answer. You can even have
them move to the letters/corners in slow motion, while doing lunges, hopping, skipping, etc.

May’s Physical Activity Brain Booster
Name of Activity: Deck of Activities
Equipment: A deck of cards. Remove Jokers
 Description:
1. On the board, write…
 Spade= Jumping Jack
 Club= squats
 Heart= speedbags
 Diamond= hop on 1 foot
2. As a group, act out each option at the beginning of the meeting
3. During each transition moment, like when a new person is presenting or after a
bathroom break, ask a staff member to select between 1 and 5 cards (keep cards in
front of room stacked upside down).
4. As a group, complete the activity corresponding with the card type (Spade, Club,
Heart, or Diamond) for the number of repetitions or seconds on the card (i.e. a 10 of
diamonds means hopping on 1 for 10 times). Face cards equal an automatic 15
seconds or repetitions.
