Independent Life Solutions Falls and Bed Leaving Bed Leaving Solution Assistive Technology Solutions Bed PIR – Immediate Activation (PIR = Passive Infra-Red) Overview The Bed PIR is simple solution to alert onsite carers that a person, who is at high risk of falling, is attempting to get out of bed – allowing the carers to respond and support quickly thereby preventing a potential fall. The Kit (Tunstall compatible) 1. The PIR and stand a. Wipe clean plastic b. Battery powered PIR c. Multi direction fitting 2. Tunstall Universal Sensor a. Connects via RJ11 cable to PIR b. Locates in the back of the stand c. Transmits to the carer pager 3. Tunstall Care Assist Pager a. Receives signal from Universal sensor b. Can be set with name, room, bed www.independentlifesolutions.co.uk 0161 748 1971 [email protected] How does it work? The Bed PIR is placed at the foot of the bed facing away from the entrance to the room and pointing down the side of the bed. When the person in the bed tries to get out and moves their feet over the side of the bed the PIR detects the movement and activates the Carers pager via the Universal transmitter. Assistive Technology Solutions How is the Bed PIR set up? 1. Check that the PIR cable is plugged into the bottom of the universal sensor 2. Place the bed PIR next to the bed after the person is settled 3. Ensure that it is facing away from any entrance to the room so that it does not pick up any other movement 4. Ensure that the Bed PIR is pointing down the length of the bed – not to close that bed covers may cause false alarms, but close enough to detect the feet as they come out of the bed 5. When the person is settled: a. Switch on the Universal sensor with on/off switch on the top of the sensor The Bed PIR is now armed and will activate if it sees any movement from the person in the bed if they try to get out. Activation If the person tries to leave the bed, the Bed PIR will detect the movement and activate the Care Assist Pager – cancel the pager – instructions below 1. Attend the person immediately to prevent a potential fall 2. Switch off the Universal sensor – this will stop further transmissions a. Make sure when the person is settled again that the Universal Transmitter is switched back on! When no longer required – switch both the Universal sensor and PIR off and place the stand in a safe place. www.independentlifesolutions.co.uk 0161 748 1971 [email protected]
