The pleasure you get from driving a BMW is the result of fi ne engineering – always setting the benchmark because it is based on much more than
engine power. This is the tradition behind BMW Effi cientDynamics. It includes the visionary Hydrogen engine, already used in completely emissionfree BMW Hydrogen 7 vehicles and BMW ActiveHybrid technology, an intelligent, demand-oriented combination of internal combustion engine and
electric motor. Every BMW, in fact, includes a multi-award-winning BMW Effi cientDynamics technology package as standard, boosting even further
while simultaneously reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Valvetronic
Petrol engines with Valvetronic have fully
variable valve lift control. This improves
the engine’s responsiveness and running
smoothness while also signifi cantly reducing
fuel consumption.
Auto Start/Stop function
BMW four-cylinder diesel engines with 6 -speed
manual transmission automatically shut down
when the vehicle is stationary, for example at a
red light or in a jam, when the driver activates
the clutch and switches to neutral. The engine
restarts as soon as the clutch is activated again.
This innovation signifi cantly reduces fuel
consumption especially in city traffi c.
Optimum Shift Indicator
Timely gear shifts are one of the most effective
and easiest ways to save fuel. This is where
the Optimum Shift Indicator in conjunction
with 6 -speed manual transmission comes in.
It shows the driver what gear to use in order
to save fuel.
BMW already offers 1 4 models with CO1
emissions of fi 񂢙 񂤅 g/km and signi2 cantly less.
But that’s just for starters. We’re carrying on
our research with BMW Ef2 cientDynamics –
in the quest to bring you more driving pleasure
and less emissions.
Common Rail Injection system
The third-generation electronically controlled
Common Rail Injection system generates
pressure of up to 1 ,8 0 0 bar. Diesel fuel can be
injected with greater precision and in exactly
calculated amounts. This lowers consumption
and emissions while at the same time enhancing
engine performance.
Disengageable
air conditioning compressor
If the air conditioning is not being used, the air
conditioning compressor in all diesel models is
uncoupled from the belt drive, which prevents
the usual loss of energy.
Brake Energy Regeneration
To supply a battery with electrical energy, the
generator (alternator) is permanently driven
using engine power, which demands additional
fuel consumption. Brake Energy Regeneration
means the generator usually only generates
electricity when the driver takes his foot off the
accelerator or the brake – previously unused
kinetic energy is transformed in coasting mode
into electrical energy before being fed into the
battery. In this way, electricity is generated
while coasting, without consuming fuel.

on the car’s equipment and are not available for all model

BMW recommends the use of RON 9 5 super unleaded petrol. Unleaded RON 9 1 and higher with a maximum ethanol content of 1 0 % (E1 0 ) may also be used. Output and consumption
figures apply to RON 9 8 fuel.
All engines comply with the EU5 emissions standard. Fuel consumption is determined in accordance with the ECE driving cycle (9 3 /1 1 6 /EC) made up of approximately one-third urban
traffic and two-thirds of extra-urban driving (based on the distance covered). CO2 emissions are measured in addition to fuel consumption. Fuel consumption is determined for vehicles
with standard equipment. Optional equipment (such as wider tyres) may have a significant impact on fuel consumption.
