Congratulations, and welcome to Body Awake Jujitsu School of Self Defense.
We would like to take this opportunity to commend you upon living up to the
responsibility of learning how to defend yourself.
Note: The following pertains to each and every rank from White Belt to Black Belt.
To earn rank students must be able to perform all the techniques as listed within their belt
requirements. Students testing for higher rank must not only pass the higher belt rank, but
they must also perform and improve all previous belt requirements.
All students must be able to perform all techniques from the left side as well as the right.
How to tie your belt
Hold the center of the belt so that the two ends are touching the floor.
Take the center of the belt and put it below your bellybutton crossing the two ends behind
you.
Bring the two ends in front of you placing the left end over the right end.
Bring the left end under the two layers of belt that are at your bellybutton.
The left end now becomes the right end.
Take the right end in your right hand and put the right end over the left.
The right end now becomes the left end.
Take the left end and bring it threw the hole that you have made at your belly button.
Tie your belt.
12th Kyu White Belt With Black Stripe

11th Kyu Yellow Belt
In order to make rank the following belt requirements are mandatory:

Wrist Bends: Six variations
Offensive Kata’s 1 – 4b:
1a) _____ With a shuffle; from left fighting stance: Move right foot to left. Left front
snapping kick. Step forward with left foot. Left fore fist or palm strike. Right
hand strike then right knee strike. Step forward with right foot. Right elbow
strike. Finish with left elbow strike.
1b) _____ With a step; from left forward stance: Front snapping kick with the right foot.
Step forward with right foot. Right hand strike (palm or fore fist). Left hand
strike. Left knee strike. Step forward with left foot. Left elbow strike. Finish
with right elbow strike.
NOTE: Elbow, knee, hand, and foot strike vary with distancing.
2 ) _____ Flying front snap kick: From left forward stance. Throw right knee up into the
air. When right foot touches the ground left foot strike hits the target. Left foot
hits target the same time right foot touches the ground. Follow through with
hand strikes, knee strike, and elbow strikes.
NOTES: The throwing of the knee amounts to how much distance the body
will travel.
3 ) _____ Side kick, from left horse stance: Do left side kick. Bring left foot back into
chamber position. Move left foot forward into left forward stance. Finish with
offensive kata #1 with a step or shuffle.
NOTE: If more distance is needed one can use cross stance.
4a) _____ Spinning back kick, from a left horse stance: Point left toes inward toward
ones right foot. Lift right knee up as high as possible, and spin 180° on left
foot. Kick with right heel. Bring right foot back into chamber position. Move
right foot forward into a right forward stance. Finish with offensive kata #1
with a step or a shuffle.
NOTE: Whip hand in a180° turn, and bring knee high for maximum effects.
4b) _____ Spinning back kick with a step, from left forward stance: Step with right foot
into a right horse stance. Bring right toes inward towards left foot. Spin on
right foot 180° turn as left heel hits target
Note: In order to earn rank, all offensive kata’s as listed for 11th Kyu Yellow Belt must
be performed starting with the right foot forward as well as the left.

10th Kyu Yellow Belt With Black Stripe
In order to make rank the following belt requirements are mandatory:
_____ Falling Ways: Left and right forward rolls, rear roll, side to side falling, dive roll
and get up.
_____ Floor fighting techniques: Mount Position, guard position, upward hip lift escape,
arm bar scissors between the legs, counter, and counter to a counter.

Ippons 1 – 4:
1) _____ Slap, block, shoto chop, ridge hand to the neck, under arm to armbar then
take down.
2) _____ Slap, block, grab elbow, opposite ridge hand strike then leg sweep.
3) _____ Slap, block, double strike, ankle knee take down.
4) _____ Back slap, block, arm bar over the shoulder, hand throw, leg sweep.
9th Kyu Orange Belt
In order to make rank the following belt requirements are mandatory:
_____ Defense against: Front reverse choke, front finger choke, rear finger choke, rear
hammerlock forearm choke.
_____ Bear hugs: Front over arm, front underarm, rear over arm, rear underarm.
_____ Full nelson.
_____ Double chicken wing.
_____ Head locks: Straight headlock, reverse headlock.
_____ Wrist grabs: Straight wrist grab, cross wrist grab, two- handed wrist grab (front
and rear).
Floor Fighting Techniques:
_____ Escape from the guard (three variations)
_____ Side mount
_____ Americana (key lock). Americana counter.
_____ The crab
8th Kyu Orange Belt With Black Stripe
In order to make rank the following belt requirements are mandatory:
Offensive kata's 5 - 7:
5a) _____ Helicopter kick: Start in left horse stance, left toes towards right foot. Throw
right knee high in the air, while spinning at 180°. Left foot hits target at the
same time the right foot lands on the ground. Bring left foot forward and finish
with offensive kata #1 with a step or shuffle.
5b) _____ Helicopter kick with a step: Start in a left forward stance. Step forward with
right foot into a horse stance. Right toes towards left foot. Throw and spin left
knee 180° turn in the air as your right foot hits the target. Bring right foot back
into chamber position. Move right foot forward into forward stance, and finish
with offensive kata #1 with a step or a shuffle.
6 ) _____ Start in left forward stance. Bring right leg into a inside crescent kick. Step
forward with right foot into right horse stance with right toes towards left foot.
Spin 180° on the right ball of foot. The left heel hits the target. Bring left foot
back into chamber position. Move left foot forward ino left forward stance,
then finish with offensive kata #1 with step or shuffle.
7 ) _____ From left forward stance. Outside crescent kick with right side or heel of foot.
Bring right foot back into chamber position. Step forward with right foot.
Round house kick with the kleft ball of the foot. Move left foot into chamber
position. Step forward with the left foot into left horse stance. Left toes
towards right foot. Spin 180° on the left ball of the foot. Strike target with heel
of the right foot.
Floor Fighting Techniques:
_____ Framing the arms (three variations of headlock)
_____ Elbow push into a choke.
_____ Oma plater into two variations of armbar
_____ Go go platter
Knuckle strikes: One knuckle, middle finger knuckle, fore knuckles.
Major Striking Areas: Eyes, neck, solar plexus, groin.
Basic Striking Points: Temple, top and bottom of the lips, abdomen, hollow of the knee,
side of the knee, charlie horse, collar bone, foot in step.
Ippons 5 – 8:
5) _____ Back hand block, spinning elbow, hand to chin, takedown.
6) _____ From a slap, block, shuto shop, grab, knee strike, elbow strike.
7) _____ Kick, move to rear corner, rear kick, strike, grab neck, knee strike, elbow
strike.
8) _____ Straight punch, block, ridge hand, choke.
7th Kyu Green Belt
In order to earn rank the following belt requirements are mandatory:
Offensive Kata’s 8 – 10:
8 ) _____ From left forward stance, outside crescent kick with the right foot. Bring right
foot into chamber position. Step back with the foot. Roundhouse kick with the right foot.
Bring right foot into chamber position. Step forward into right horse stance. Spin 180°
on right foot, into a spinning back kick. Left foot hits target.
9 ) _____ From left forward stance, shuffle right foot to left foot. Outside crescent kick
with the left foot. Bring the left foot into chamber position. Step forward with the left
foot. Roundhouse kick with the right foot. Bring right foot in to chamber position. Step
forward with the right foot into right horse stance. Spin 180° on the right foot, into a
spinning back kick with the left foot hitting the target.
10)_____ From left forward stance, bring the left foot at a 90° angle away from the body.
Side kick the right foot. Bring the right foot into chamber position. Step forward with the
right foot, into a right horse stance. Shuffle forward, and side kick with the right foot.
Bring right foot into chamber position. Step forward with the right foot. Spin on the right
foot 180° turn, into a spinning back kick with the left foot hitting the target.
_____ Scissor choke.
