Call for Entry New River Art 2017 14th Juried Biennial Exhibition Floyd Center for the Arts Floyd, Va. June 9 – August 5 The New River Art Biennial is a juried exhibition that rotates between the Floyd Center for the Arts in Floyd, Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley (FACNRV) in Pulaski, and the Blacksburg Regional Art Association. The 2017 exhibition is being coordinated by the Floyd Center for the Arts and will hang in the Hayloft Gallery, the center’s formal gallery space, 220Parkway Lane South, Floyd Va. 24091. Juror: Amy Shawley is a Virginia-‐based visual artist whose painting and illustration is inspired by the natural world. Her work incorporates fauna, flora, landscapes, and textures she has encountered during her travels and everyday life. After earning her Art History degree, developing her love of paint, and exhibiting her work in New York and LA, Amy was selected and trained in 2008 by Golden Artist Colors for their Working Artist Program. She taught and lectured in their southern California territory for six years then relocated back east to offer painting lectures in Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware. Amy teaches art workshops nationally, offers online education, and published her first book in 2015, Acrylic Texture Techniques: Rock, Metal and Wood. Eligibility: Quick Reference Open to all artists 18 years of age or older living within 150 driving miles of Floyd VA. Work must be original Exhibition dates: June 9 – August 5 and executed within the past two years. All fine arts and Opening reception: June 17, 5-‐7pm fine craft media including painting, sculpture, graphics, ceramics, textiles, mixed media, photography, time-‐ Shipped work arrival: May 29 – June2 based/new media and installation are accepted. Delivered work: June 2 – 3 Handicrafts are not eligible. Artist may submit up to Pickup of work: August 7 or appointment three (3) artworks. (not before) Fees for online application: Entries open: February 10 – April 25 CaFE $40 for up to 3 works – non-‐refundable. We accept credit cards or $40 entry fee is non-‐refundable ($5 checks. discount for Floyd Center for the Arts Members. Entry procedures: The exhibition will be juried through CaFE Notification of acceptance: May 12 (CallforEntry.org). This process provides online gallery, automatic feedback, anonymous online jury, automated Cash Awards: $500 Grand Prize and at least acceptance notifications, phone help, and many more $1200 in total prizes advantages. Applications will not be accepted through any other method. Conditions of Delivery: Acceptance of the image judging stage does not necessarily guarantee inclusion in the exhibition. Should any piece of art differ significantly from the original image entry, the piece will be disqualified from the exhibition. Shipped work must have an accompanying return shipping label. The artist will be notified if art arrives damaged. The Center will NOT pay for return shipping. Media size requirements and liability: Artwork must be received ready to display. Any piece that is inappropriately presented will be disqualified. The following presentation conditions apply: • Strip framing and saw tooth hangers are prohibited • Stretched canvas may be unframed only if sides are painted (gallery wrap) • 2-‐Dimensional pieces must not exceed 68” in any dimension • Hanging wire must be used, other implements such as string are prohibited • When appropriate, works should be covered and/or fixed • Floor sculptures or pedestaled works must be independently stable • Sculpture must be portable by not more than two persons and weigh less than 200 lbs. • 3-‐Dimensional pieces must be able to pass through 36” doorway unless exhibited outdoors • The Center reserves the right to reject any entry that requires special installation or care that it is unable to provide Liability: Floyd Center cannot be responsible for damaged, lost, or stolen works and does not insure the exhibition. Artists wishing protection should insure their work. All possible care will be taken of the work submitted to the exhibition. Floyd Center is staffed and the gallery is monitored during business hours. Floyd Center for the Arts will not assume liability for loss or damage associated with shipping. By submitting this application and fee, I agree that my consent is given for this agreement. Image requirements: Digital files for online entry must be in JPEG format, maximum file size of 3MB, 72 ppi resolution and no smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side formatted in baseline standard JPG and RGB or sRGB. This format meets the requirements of www.callforentry.org. File name must contain title of work and first and last name of artist. Example: Sunset-‐Mary Jones.jpg. The file name will not be visible to the juror. Sales and Recognition: Artwork does not need to be for sale, however, it is preferable. A thirty percent (30%) gallery commission and sales taxes apply for Center Members and a forty percent (40%) gallery commission and sales taxes apply for all other submitting artists. All accounts will be settled within thirty (30) days of the close of the exhibition. The Center reserves the right to use art images for the purpose of promotion and marketing.
