The God of Miracles Continues To Change The Unchangeable

The God of Miracles
Continues To Change
The Unchangeable
Matthew 9:9-13
Matthew 9:9-13
The Message (MSG)
9 Passing along, Jesus saw a
man at his work collecting
taxes. His name was Matthew.
Jesus said, “Come along with
me.” Matthew stood up and
followed him.
Matthew 9:9-13
The Message (MSG)
10-11 Later when Jesus was eating
supper at Matthew’s house with his close
followers, a lot of disreputable characters
came and joined them. When the
Pharisees saw him keeping this kind of
company, they had a fit, and lit into
Jesus’ followers. “What kind of example
is this from your Teacher, acting cozy
with crooks and riffraff?”
Matthew 9:9-13
The Message (MSG)
12-13 Jesus, overhearing, shot
back, “Who needs a doctor: the
healthy or the sick? Go figure out
what this Scripture means: ‘I’m
after mercy, not religion.’ I’m
here to invite outsiders, not
coddle insiders.”
I. Jesus Calls Every
Believer To Be One of
His Followers
Here is what happens
to those who become
disciples of Jesus:
A. He becomes the
central focus of our
lives
B. He becomes the
central focus of our
homes
Luke 15:10
“There is rejoicing in
the presence of
angels of God over
one sinner who
repents”
C. We Tell Our Friends
and Acquaintances
About Him
II. Jesus Seems To Be
More Comfortable
With Sinners Than He
Is With The Religious
Elite
THE CHURCH IS A
HOSPITAL FOR
SINNERS, NOT A
SHOWCASE FOR
SAINTS!
III. Jesus Christ Is The
Only One Who Cures
Sin
Romans 3:10
“There is none
righteous, not even
one”
Romans 3:23
“For all have sinned
and fall short of the
glory of God”
Matthew 11:28
“Come to me, all you
who are weary and
burdened, and I will
give you rest.”
