ACCESS TO PLAYING AREA
Check that access to the playing area is safe and free from obstacles.

Check entrance to astro turf is clear and remains clear.
PLAYING / TRAINING AREA
Check that the area and surroundings are safe and free from obstacles.
Is the area fit and appropriate for activity? Yes (if no, please outline the hazard, who may be at risk
and action taken, if any).
Astro turf being used: Check for hazards, remove any potential debris etc.
Highlight playing areas to participants and staff outlining any potential dangers, e.g. cones marking
pitches, benches for spectators etc.
Explain that when not playing participants and staff should stay back from the courts in a designated
area or they can practice in a designated area outside under the supervision of their teacher.
EQUIPMENT
Check that it is fit and sound for activity and suitable for age group/ability.
Is the equipment safe and appropriate for use? Yes (if no, please outline unsafe equipment, who may
be at risk and action taken, if any).
Check Quicksticks hockey pack – supplied by Partnership. This must be used, Participants cannot
use their own equipment.
Sticks- for any wear and tear which could cause injury. Do not use any sticks that could cause injury
Balls – check for wear and tear – do not use any which pose a potential hazard.
Cones – Do not use cracked cones or hard plastic cones.
PERFORMERS
Check that the performers register is up to date with medical information and contact details. Check
that performers are appropriately attired for the activity.
Is/are the register/s in order? Yes / No (if no, please outline current state and action taken if any).
Teachers/staff are in charge of players and medication etc.

Are performers appropriately attired and safe for activity? Yes / No (if no, please outline unsafe
equipment/attire and action taken, if any).
Previous documentation was sent to schools which recommended players wear shin pads and gum
shields. Organiser to remind players/staff about this on the day. It is the schools responsibility to
ensure participants are wearing correct equipment. Any injury caused to players not wearing
recommended protection liability will lie with the school.
Organiser/leaders will ensure Quicksticks hockey rules are adhered to. Any dangerous play, e.g.
sticks being raised too high, the game will be stopped and rules explained again. Persistent breaking
of rules may result in a player being taken off if it is deemed to be a potential threat of injury to
another player.
EMERGENCY POINTS
Check that emergency vehicles can access facilities and that a working telephone is available with
access to emergency numbers.

Schools have been advised to bring their own first aid trained adult.
First aid procedures at SHS CC will be followed in an emergency.
SAFETY INFORMATION
Check that evacuation procedures are published and posted somewhere for all to see. Ensure that
volunteers and staff have access to information relating to health and safety.
Are emergency procedures published and accessible to those with responsibility for the sessions?

Organiser will direct participants/staff out the emergency exits if necessary. These exits will be open
and free from obstruction.
