1. CALL THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL
Luke Alexander called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Jack Safford and Bryan
Hagan were absent. Also in attendance were Rich Duvarney, Superintendent
TCDE; Erica Gibson, Linda Smith, and Ashley Meese.
2. FLAG SALUTE
Luke Alexander led the flag salute.
3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Paul Gibson made a motion to approve of the October 19, 2016 Public Hearing
Board Meeting Agenda and Bob Varner seconded.

4. HEARING OF PERSONS DESIRING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD
Procedure: The Board encourages people to attend meetings of the Kirkwood Elementary
School District Board of Trustees and express themselves concerning agenda items. Persons
desiring to address the Board concerning agenda items are asked to stand and be recognized
by the Chairperson. Persons desiring to address the Board on non-agenda items may be heard
but no action is allowed by the Board on non-agenda items. When convenient, it will be helpful
to the Chairperson and Trustees if persons desiring to speak will contact the Chairperson or
Superintendent prior to the meeting. It may be necessary at times for the Chairperson to limit
discussion. Any individual who requires disability-related accommodations or modifications,
including auxiliary aids and services, in order to participate in the Board meeting should contact
the Superintendent prior to the scheduled meeting at 530-824-7773.
Rich Duvarney introduced himself and asked for feedback on how the Tehama
Dept. of Education could further aid the board and the school. He expressed
his appreciation for the board members and staffs commitment to the district.
Levi Funderburk presented his plan to take the Astronomy Club to Oregon to
view the Solar Eclipse next year. Plan is to leave on Sunday, August 20, 2017,
maybe see Crater Lake, and view the eclipse on Monday, August 21st from 9:15
a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and then return home. He is checking on staying at the
college dorm.
A parent/staff volleyball game is scheduled for Oct. 20th at 4:00 p.m.
Gold Nugget Museum for grades 3-6 on November 2, 2016.

7. ACTION AND INFORMATIONAL ITEMS
7.1
Paul Gibson made a motion to approve the Revised Proposition 39
Expenditure Report for 2015-16 and Bob Varner seconded.

7.2
Bob Varner made a motion to approve the School Services Consortium
Membership for 2016-17 with TCDE and Paul Gibson seconded.

7.3
Paul Gibson made a motion to approve Kristina Young’s leave of absence
request from August 12, 2016 to March 12, 2017 and Bob Varner
seconded. It was recommended to keep Marcie Johnson in the
classroom with Kristina for a couple of weeks when Kristina returns in order
to make the transition a smooth one for the students. If Kristina requests
leave past March 12th, it is recommended that she remain on leave
through the end of the school year on June 2, 2017. The board believes
this would be better for the education of the students not to have further
changes in the year.

Bob Varner made a motion to approve AR’s and BP’s: 3100 Budget, 3290
Gifts, Grants and Bequests, 3311 Bids, 4161 4162 Leaves, Personnel, and
Paul Gibson seconded.

LUKE ALEXANDER ANNOUNCED THE OPENING OF A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE
REVISED IMF RESOLUTION at 5:54 p.m. and closed at 5:56 p.m.
7.5 Bob Varner made a motion to approve the Revised IMF Resolution #201617/03 and Paul Gibson seconded.

7.6 Superintendent Comments: John Burch shared a flyer for an Astronomy
Presentation. Levi is to check it out and give recommendation at the next
board meeting. John Burch will share the new LCAP rubric and template
at the next board meeting.
7.7 Trustees’ Comments: What are we doing about having a motivational
speaker at an assembly?
