IMPORTANCE OF GIVING PRESENTATIONS
Even if you nail the content, design and structure, it doesn’t
mean a thing if no one sees it. Presentations aren’t merely
documents or files; they are a dynamic experience shared
between a presenter and their audience. A great presentation
is only as good as the delivery – both by the presenter and by
the presentation technology they use. Whether presenting in a
boardroom, of f an iPad, over the Web or as a print -out, the right
delivery can make all the dif ference between a great
presentation, a missed opportunity or a presentation disaster.
All the other elements don’t matter if the delivery just doesn’t
work.
1. DO NOT READ FROM YOUR SLIDES
HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE
PRESENTATION
Know your
point
Frame your
message
Refine
your story
2. ALWAYS HAVE MORE TO TELL
Example: you show a graph, but your description (speech) is not
written in the slide.
IMPACTFUL PRESENTER
3. DO NOT TELL «IN THIS SLIDE WE
SEE...»
4. RELATE WITH THE LISTENERS
Discuss, ask questions, find common interests
5. REMEMBER THAT PEOPLE
COME TO LISTEN TO YOU TALK, NOT TO READ
YOUR SLIDES
6. REHEARSE YOUR TALK BUT DO NOT
MEMORIZE IT
7. B E G I N BY LE T T I NG YOU R AU D I E NC E KN OW T H AT YOU A R E
H A P P Y FOR T H E OP P ORT UN IT Y TO SP E A K TO T H E M
GENERALLY STAY OFF TO THE SIDE BUT
MOVE, MOVE,MOVE!
Occasionally move toward the screen
Occasionally move toward the audience
Occasionally move from one side of the screen to
the other
A talk seems slow moving when the speaker is
stationary
Keep your body “open” to the audience
GO OVER BIG IDEAS TWICE OR MORE
DO NOT EXCEED YOUR ALLOTTED TIME
CLOSE BY THANKING YOUR AUDIENCE
YOUR VOICE IS YOUR VEAPON
Speak in loud, clear voice
Vary your voice for dramatic effect
MAINTAIN EYE CONTACT
ALWAYS USE NOTES

Use your notes as promts
Notes will help to stand away from screen
Notes will help you to stay on track with time and topic
DO NOT READ YOUR NOTES – occasional look is ok!
