Confrontation Scenarios (For Role Playing)

Confrontation Scenarios
(For Role Playing)
Scenarios for Confrontation Role Playing
The following scenarios can be effective to help participants role play confrontation
skills. Provide a copy of a scenario to a team of two or three and ask them to role play
the scene in front of the large group. One approach that will add a little "spice" to the
activity is to have them draw the scenarios at random (from a box or bag), much as in
playing Charades.
After each role play, facilitate a discussion using the questions provided, and by seeking
the input/comments of the "audience."
1. There is a chapter member who is not fulfilling his duties and responsibilities in Theta
Xi. He is not attending meetings, doing his house duties, nor is he current with his
dues. The EBoard has confronted this member repeatedly, but the behavior continues.
How could this situation be addressed in an Exec meeting? What should be the next
step?
2. Morale in the chapter seems to be at an all time low. Meeting attendance is poor and
there is no interest in the activities the chapter is pursuing. How could morale be
boosted? Is this part of Exec's obligation to the chapter?
3. A member refuses to participate in the volunteer service program. He says that he
cannot be forced to volunteer. How should Exec handle this situation? What
consequences should result?
4. There is a member of Exec who is not setting a positive example for the chapter. He
also is not keeping EBoard conversations confidential; he vents his frustrations after the
meetings to his non-exec roommate. This member has already been confronted by the
President, however, he continues to display the same behaviors. How could this
situation be addressed in the next Exec meeting?
5. A Theta Xi was seen of campus by an Exec member smoking marijuana with friends.
The member smoking did not know that the other Theta Xi saw him. What responsibility
does the Exec member have in this situation? What should he do and who should he
approach?
6. You are the President and you overhear a few members in the hallway discussing the
scavenger hunt they had for their little brothers last night. They share the details of the
hunt, involving shots of alcohol, blindfolds and songs to sorority women.
7. You hear two members from you chapter talking on the way to class one afternoon
about the pre-party they are having at their apartment before the 6294 formal on Friday
night. You know there is a pretty good chance that underage members will be drinking
at the party.
8. As you get off the bus from the 6294 formal, you hear a member of your chapter
shout, "Hey everybody, post party at my apartment!" You notice that he does not have
good balance and appears to be pretty intoxicated.
