I found it useful that we discussed the background behind leadership, for example, what leadership is, because I felt this set the scene for the programme. The talk was quite inspirational and also got me thinking about my core beliefs. I really enjoyed the three minute activity where we had to find an area in which we had something in common with other members of the group. Future Leaders Crew: Gantt chart plan for crew 1 Lewis: I would like to thank you for organising such an interesting first meeting, this really gave me a taste of what’s to come and it truly excites me. I enjoyed having the guest speaker join us, this was a nice aspect of the meeting and was good to converse with such an interesting person and here the story of leadership from an aspect that was new to me. I hope that we can help each other to achieve our goals. I am proud to be a member of the crew. Charities for leadership project: The Future Leaders Crew is a fantastic group of some of the sharpest young minds in Norfolk who are committed to growing themselves as leaders and applying their learning to make a difference in their community. The Nelsonspirit programme is expertly designed to enable their development and I was very pleased to have played a small part in their learning journey. Tim Sweeting, CEO, YMCA Norfolk. Who is paying for it? Future Leaders Crew 1 Pilot funded entirely by money and time/in kind support from Norfolk Leaders crew (mainly) businesses and charities. Cost to young people and school = Nil. Costs at full £78500. Most of cost = time. Cooper Lomaz (recruitment), Almary Green (IFAs), Howes Percival (Solicitors), and Nelsonspirit as main sponsors. Lessons learned to date 1. There are some absolutely excellent future leaders out there! In Norfolk we are rich with talent and potential. 2. They are not necessarily to be found where you first think! (Ignore Ofsted league tables). 3. Selection underscores value (blind, independent, looking for potential). 4. The leaders of today really do want to engage with and invest in young people (but don’t know how to do it). Its not about money. 5. Cross school, cross sectors, and cross ages creates magic. 6. The engagement of the young people and the business leaders has surpassed our expectations, and has been energising, and great fun.
