“Chicago Cubs Win
the World Series”
The Chicago Cubs, ending a championship drought that
has lasted 108 years, beat the Cleveland Indians 8-7 in
Game 7 of the 2016 World Series at Progressive Field
in Cleveland. They did it the hard way, too, coming
back from a 3-1 game deficit, winning three straight
games, including the last two on the road in Cleveland.
And it took ten innings to win it all in Game 7. The
Cubs are the first team since the 1985 Kansas City
Royals to claw back from a 3-1 deficit in the World
Series. The game had no shortage of stomachtightening moments for both teams and their fans. The
Cubs had won 103 games throughout the regular
season. The last time the Chicago Cubs won the World
Series was 1908 back when Theodore Roosevelt was
president. This was the 60th extra-inning game in
World Series history, and it was the fifth time that
happened in a decisive game. With the Cubs' win early
Thursday morning, the Indians now have the current
longest dry spell between championships, last winning
in 1948.

Britain's plans to leave the European Union were thrown into
confusion Thursday after a court ruled that members of parliament
must be given a say in the process. The U.K. High Court ruled that
lawmakers should vote on whether the government can begin the
formal Brexit process by triggering Article 50 of the EU treaty.
Experts say parliament is unlikely to block Brexit outright. But the
ruling could mean Brexit is delayed, and lawmakers may get a
chance to influence what kind of deal the government negotiates
with the EU.
Donald Trump's path to 270 electoral votes remains precarious -but with some breaks, he can get there. Trump's campaign has
made clear exactly what its targets are. It is spending $25 million
on TV ads in the final week of the campaign in Colorado, Florida,
Iowa, Maine, Michigan, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio,
Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Virginia, Nevada and New Hampshire.
Do we really understand the Electoral College?
