Mission Statement
West View Elementary School, in
partnership with its entire community, will
educate each student by providing a
positive, challenging, and enriched learning
environment that enables each student to
become a life-long learner and a
responsible citizen in an increasingly global
society.
SIC Annual Goals
The School Improvement Council set three
goals for the school year, as derived from
the five-year School Improvement Plan. We
are excited to report on the progress of each
goal for the 2011-2012 school year.
Goal 1: WVES Walking Track
West View and its stakeholders believe healthy
children are smarter children! We try to instill
this belief in our students in order to encourage
healthy life choices. The WVES SIC plans to
establish signage on the walking track at the back
of the school. This will indicate the length and
the number of laps to achieve a certain point as
well as the overall distance points. Our track is
made available to our students, faculty, parents,
and community. Community hours will also be
posted on the gate near the playground. Our
students have daily opportunities to use the track
at recess and during physical education classes.
information, etc. this communication will offer
the positive praise we hope to relay about
students.
Goal 3: Technology
The committee has chosen the goal of technology
as our most encompassing endeavor.
The
committee has been searching for grants for
which to secure additional technology in the
classrooms. We would like to equip teachers and
students with resources that compliment the
teaching and the learning taking place in our
classrooms.
Such items would be digital
cameras, slates, document readers, E-Readers,
etc. We believe that students must be prepared
for the world of tomorrow. Any exposure to the
latest technologies today will pay off later for our
youngest students. We are excited to learn that
our kindergarten classrooms will be outfitted with
Promethean Boards this year! This District will
provide this to our school, making all
kindergarten through fifth grade classrooms
equipped with this technology.
Goal 2: Communication
Our fifth grade students take a school survey
conducted by the State Department of Education
each year. Fifth grade parents complete a survey
as well, answering questions based on a variety
of indicators about the school (facility, teachers,
communication, etc.) While we have a high
percentage of parents pleased with their child’s
education at WVES, we had one area in need in
the area of communication. The committee
discussed this and launched a new system to help
parents receive positive comments about his/her
child. Brag Tags were created and given to
classroom teachers. This quick “paws”itive note
is a way teachers can easily reinforce and praise
students. We have so many students giving their
personal best each and every day, and we look
forward to communicating this to the child and to
the parent. In addition to our teacher newsletters,
school newsletter, webpages, flyers, PTO
