GO GLOBAL
ENTERPRISE DAY
INTRODUCTION
By now you will have played the Go Global board game and so will have some idea about
why the game has been produced. You and your company will now need to work together
to create a marketing plan to advertise and sell the game. By the end of the day your
company will be expected to give a short presentation (3-5 minutes).
TIPS – THINGS TO HELP YOU WITH THIS TASK
When you market a product you have to keep in mind the FOUR Ps
P = PRODUCT
P = PRICE
P = PROMOTION
P = PLACE
= Your product is the Go Global Board Game.
4 PRODUCT
4 PRICE
= The price should take into consideration how much the board game costs to make. To ensure a
profit you must make sure that the selling price is more than the manufacturing cost. You should also take into
consideration any other costs such as advertising.
4 PROMOTION
= Promote by advertising the board game: posters, press release, web-site etc.
4 PLACE
= Where are you going to sell the game? In the UK and overseas? If you are going to try and sell it
overseas you need to think about cultural and language differences.

PRESS RELEASE
Project: DVD resource launch
Date: 31 October 2011
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LEARN A LANGUAGE, LIVE ABROAD!
Routes into Languages Cymru has been working closely with partner institution, University of Glamorgan, to create an exciting new resource for schools and colleges which
highlights the opportunities to study and work abroad.
The job to create this DVD was awarded to students from the University of Glamorgan’s BA in Media Production course. Over the past 18 months they have been travelling
the country, filming interviews with students from Bangor, Aberystwyth and Cardiff universities.
The result is this fantastic DVD resource, Learn a language, live abroad! Broaden your horizons. It is aimed at young people and highlights the opportunities available to
study and work abroad with the Erasmus and Leonardo student mobility programmes. The DVD showcases students in Wales who have all recently returned from trips
abroad. They share their stories about learning languages, feelings of apprehension and excitement, the challenges they faced and overcame and how they plan to use their
experiences abroad to embark on their careers.
This snapshot of experiences abroad will raise awareness of the Erasmus and Leonardo mobility programmes amongst young people in Wales. It will give them a taste of
the exciting opportunities on offer to students in Europe and will reinforce the message that skills in another language can enhance experiences abroad and also employability
at home.
The resource will be launched on Wednesday, 2nd November 2011. A copy of the DVD will then be provided to each Secondary School and Further Education College in
Wales. It will also be made available to Careers Wales organisations.

Some facts to consider when doing business in other countries:
To do business in the Spanish market, it is very important to meet people face-to-face.
Spaniards appreciate a personal relationship with suppliers.
Spain is currently experiencing high unemployment rates and is likely to be one of the last of the Euro-zone
markets to emerge from recession.
In France, an ability to speak even just a little French goes a long way.
It is important to at least learn some basic greetings prior to doing business in France.
French is spoken in every continent of the world.
Italians are very personal in their business dealings.
Using a personal contact to make introductions and set up initial meetings will give a significant boost to your
credibility.
Long credit payment terms are common (60 to 90 days)
Under the German packaging regulations, suppliers are under an obligation to take back and recycle up to 70% of
their packaging.
Germany is a key economic power on the global stage.
Things to consider:
Be careful when naming your company or translating slogans. A badly translated brand name or advertising slogan can
have embarrassing or even offensive consequences in the target language.
These companies made funny but costly mistakes:
• When Parker Pen marketed a ball-point pen in Mexico, its ads were supposed to have read, “It won’t leak in your
pocket and embarrass you.” The company used the word “embarazar” (to impregnate), so the advert read: “It won’t
leak in your pocket and make you pregnant.”
• Clairol introduced the “Mist Stick,” a curling iron, into Germany. “Mist” is slang for manure.
•General Motors had a very famous fiasco in trying to market the Nova car in Central and South America. “No va” in
Spanish means, “It Doesn’t Go”.
• Pepsi’s “Come Alive with the Pepsi Generation” translated into… “Pepsi Brings Your Ancestors Back From the Grave”
in Chinese.
