Organisational overview
ReturnToWorkSA is responsible for insuring and regulating the South Australian Return to Work scheme. We
provide insurance that protects South Australian businesses and their workers in the event of a work injury.
Designed to protect business owners from the full cost of workplace injuries, we provide financial support to
cover worker wages, reasonable medical treatment and return to work services to people who have been injured
at work.
Our services and those delivered by our claims agents are designed to provide early intervention support to
workers and employers following a work injury to ensure the worker can recover and return to work as quickly as
possible.

The Insurance Group within ReturnToWorkSA exists to provide a durable insurance scheme with an affordable
and competitive employer premium, delivered through great service always to injured workers and their
employers, that is focused on worker’s recovery and return to work.
The Insurance Group supports ReturnToWorkSA to deliver on its purpose through:





managing claims agent and legal provider contracts to ensure best possible claims outcomes for workers
and insured employers, in the development and delivery of the ReturnToWorkSA Business Model
managing claims where workers have severe traumatic injuries, to deliver the best possible health
outcomes and sustained restoration to the community
managing the premium process to ensure we maximise the appropriate allocation and collection of
premiums from businesses
providing risk management services to support premium underwriters in assessing risk and setting
premium terms and conditions
providing Scheme legal support.
The Premium & Underwriting Directorate is responsible for ensuring employers receive a high quality, customer
focused insurance premium service that is fair and reasonable for all South Australian employers. This includes
employer registration and classification, underwriting and premium rate setting and, collection and compliance
activities. The primary goal of the Directorate is to maintain maximum premium collection.
Position purpose
The Recovery Officer is responsible for the collection of debts prior to legal recovery proceedings commencing,
negotiating payments/payment arrangements, handling debtor enquiries and provides administrative assistance
to the team.

Key result areas (KRA’s)
1. Undertake activities associated with debt collection to minimise outstanding liabilities:
 Contact relevant employers with outstanding debts in line with policy and procedures.
 Negotiate, set up and monitor payment arrangements in accordance with delegations and procedures.
 Refer matters to for legal recovery action where necessary
 Liaise with Senior Recovery Officers regarding overdue amounts and employer payment/non-payment.
2. Provide general administrative assistance to the team by:
 Issuing audit request letters for the Premium Auditor team.
 Identifying and allocating suspense payments to employer accounts
 Creating new registrations in the premium management system (Curam) for insolvency providers that
continue to engage workers
 Assisting in the preparation of documentation required for legal insolvency, freedom of information or
other purposes.
3. ReturnToWorkSA successfully achieves workplace health and safety and injury management (WHS&IM)
objectives and continuous improvement of WHS&IM by:






 Experience in debt collection
