The GEM E-Learning Team are aware that there are still a number of queries being received regarding
the e-learning environment not recording progress correctly and thereby showing courses as
“incomplete”.
There are two overall reasons why this can be an issue for staff, including requiring local IT teams to
ensure the PC or laptop is compatible with the e-learning environment on ESR. The second is ensuring
that all stages of the assessment are completed in full. These are explored in more detail below:

It is extremely important to ensure that, before attempting any e-learning course, a PC Check is
performed to ensure full compatibility with the e-learning environment (instructions on how to
perform a PC Check are contained within the e-learning booklet). The PC-Checker tool will
automatically run when the web page is accessed and any discrepancies will be shown in red.
These discrepancies need to be resolved before the PC is used for playing e-learning content and
any technical issues need to be raised directly with local IT departments. Please also note that if
Google Chrome is installed on your PC then the e-learning environment will not communicate
correctly with ESR.

An error message “LMS not connected”, or similar wording, is showing when the course has
been completed. This means that the PC is not fully compatible and will not record any learning
progress. Local IT Teams should be able to assist in resolving this issue by ensuring that the
correct versions of both Java and SCORM Adapter are installed. However if the problem still
persist please ensure that a screen shot of the Java Console and the PC Checker tool are emailed
to the e-learning team on [email protected] for further action.

All courses have a condition written into them by the ESR Central E-Learning Team in that each
and every page/slide/section heading(s)/sub-section heading(s) must be accessed/opened
before attempting the assessments. Some courses have a ‘+ expanding’ button to them and
these must be clicked on to open further parts of the course that are required to be completed.

Once a section of a course has been completed please ensure that either a fully-shaded blue
circle or a green tick appears at the side of the section heading before attempting the next
section of the course. If the circle is only half shaded please click back into this section of the
course and ensure that all parts of this section have been explored.

Each page must be allowed to load completely before moving onto the next page.

“Learning Certification” was not chosen prior to enrolling on a course.

Please always exit the course by clicking on the blue “Home” icon at the top right hand side of
the screen. Never exit a course using any other method as the system will be unable to record
information correctly.

Sometimes an overnight run is required to enable the system to update, this is called the
replication process, before a course will show as complete.
Hopefully this provides a helpful summary and further information to support your staff in resolving
some of the issues relating to e-learning modules on ESR.
