Information for Stakeholders
Partnership working is central to our approach, and we will work with partner agencies to agreed protocols,
to ensure a consistent, co-ordinated and complementary service is provided for young people at Draper’s.
Involving Young People
Regular Residents Meetings will be held to provide young people with opportunities to review and agree
“house rules” (so that they understand and gain ownership of the arrangements necessary for communal
living); help develop activities programmes and provide feedback. Young people will be supported to use
our Suggestions Box and Feedback and Complaints procedures - we welcome advocacy from partner
agencies to assist young people in having their say about the services they receive.
Moving on from Drapers
Young people will stay at Draper’s for up to 12 months - some people may be ready to move-on in a shorter
period, and some people may need to stay a little longer. During your stay, we will talk to you about your
options and next steps. These may include another supported housing service, your own home or shared
accommodation in the Private Rented Sector.

Personal &
Social Life Skills
We believe the services we offer provide the foundations and skills young people need to lead healthy, productive and
purposeful lives. However, our experience is that how we work with young people is as important as what we offer.
Our methodology, or practice model, is designed to empower young people by working with them to identify their
priorities and aspirations; develop the skills to plan how to meet their goals; and gain the long term insights and resilience
to live independent and fulfilled lives.
We take a team based approach to working with young people, and have regular case review meetings where insights and
advice are shared; ensuring young people benefit from the full experience and skills of the team who are able to work to a
social pedagogue model. This involves building trusting professional relationships with young people, informed by insights
into the reasons for what may sometimes be challenging behaviours, and demonstrate that they care about the young
person’s wellbeing and are interested in them and their point of view, by:




Actively listening
Involving them in decisions about them
Persistence – keeping the door open
Affirmation – showing young people that someone believes in their potential, even when they may have lost sight
of this themselves

Accommodation at Draper’s
Draper’s offers accommodation for 41 young people, comprisi8ng 21 rooms with shared bathrooms and
kitchens (young people usually share with one or two other people) and 20 self contained flats; mostly
studio/bedsits. There is a communal laundry and shared spaces and offices for meetings and activities.
We offer young people the opportunity to personalise their room, but may require them to move during their
stay at Draper’s. This is to enable them to gain different experiences – including learning to share with “flat
mates”.
