This position is being filled under the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP)
What is the Student Educational Employment Program (SCEP) - it is a program that provides
Federal employment opportunities to students who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment as
degree seeking students taking at least a half-time academic, technical, or vocational course load
in an accredited high school, technical, vocational, 2 or 4 year college or university, graduate or
professional school. Students in the SCEP may be noncompetitively converted to term, career or
career-conditional appointments following completion of their academic and work experience

Major Duties:
The selectee will serve as a Student Trainee (Intelligence Research) for the U.S. Secret Service,
Office of Protective Research, Intelligence Division. As a student trainee (Intelligence Research)
he/she will be responsible for performing intelligence research projects and assignments where
the duties are well-defined and easily understood and assisting higher graded specialists on more
complex projects; assists in analyzing, abstracting, and disseminating current and accurate
information received from a variety of sources pertaining to subjects or groups who may pose a
potential threat to the Service’s protectees or protected facilities; assists in the research, review
and evaluation of classified and sensitive intelligence information to determine its
significance relative to the Service’s protective mission; assists in the preparation of a variety of
intelligence reports based on analysis and evaluation of current intelligence information received
from multiple sources; assists in analyzing interim and closing reports to determine the
completeness and accuracy of information; performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Student Career Experience Program candidates must meet the qualification requirements of the
position contained in the Qualification Standards for Competitive Service Student Trainee
Positions. List only education from an educational institution accredited by an accrediting agency
recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Meeting SCEP Requirements:
Applicants must be at least 16 years of age at the time of appointment.
Currently enrolled on at least a half-time basis in an accredited high school, technical or vocational
school or be enrolled in a 2 or 4 year college or university, graduate or professional school; be
enrolled in academic, vocational, or technical program leading to a degree diploma or certificate.
Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale.
Provide proof of enrollment and GPA in addition to submitting a resume. If you do not provide your
most recent transcript to verify GPA and proof of enrollment, you will not receive consideration for
this position.
Applicants MUST provide copies of college transcript.
At the GS-5 level:
Completion of 4 full years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's
degree, or completion of 4 years of pre-professional study.
At the GS-7 level:
Completion of one (1) full year of graduate level education, or completion of
the requirements for a bachelor's degree if the student meets the criteria for
Superior Academic Achievement, or completion of five years of preprofessional study.
Superior Academic Achievement: In order to qualify at the GS-7 level based on superior
academic achievement, candidates must have:
(1) Standing in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university or major
subdivision; or
(2) Overall grade point average of 3.0 or better or a grade point average in the major field of study
of 3.5 or better, either for all four years of study or for the last two years; or
(3) Elected membership in a National Scholastic Honor Society.
A college transcript must be submitted with the application for verification of eligibility.
If the student has any previous work experience that is directly related to the work of the target
occupational series (that is, the position for which the student is training), then the appointment
may be made at the highest grade level for which the applicant is qualified and eligible. Students
must complete 640 hours on-the-job experience prior to graduation and may be non-competitively
converted into a career or career-conditional appointment. Questions regarding the crediting of
experience should be directed to the Personnel Division.

As a condition of employment, male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must certify that
they have registered with the Selective Service System, or are exempt from having to do so under
Selective Service law.
This position is critical-sensitive. Completion of a full-field investigation is required before
appointment. Applicants must qualify for a top secret clearance.
All applicants tentatively selected for this position (except current Secret Service employees) shall
be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Actual
appointment will be contingent upon the receipt of a negative drug test result.
Successful completion of a polygraph examination is required for this position.
