International co-ordinator/team
The role of the International Coordinator/Team is to encourage an
international dimension within the school by working with the entire
school community and linking in, as far as possible, with studies and
activities already taking place.
EXAMPLE 1
International Dimension Co-ordinator/Team: Role Description
The International Dimension Co-ordinator/Team will promote
International Awareness throughout the school, the wider school
community and the local community.
This will be achieved by:
• Co-ordinating international activities within the school.
• Inviting visitors from other countries into school.
• Initiating communication links with other schools in Ireland and
abroad.
• Discussing and planning with staff and Board of Management as
appropriate.
• Providing articles about recent international work for the school
magazine/website etc.
• Informing the local media of international activities taking place in
the school.

International Dimension Coordinator/Team: Role Description
Key tasks may include:

• To raise awareness of and plan for an International Dimension in
the school by liaising with all staff and the Board of Management as
appropriate during the school year.
• To contribute towards a school policy statement on the International
Dimension
• To undertake an annual evaluation of international activities and
identify opportunities to further develop the International Dimension
as part of the school plan.
•To help the school celebrate its rich and diverse cultural heritage and
diversity through assemblies, international days/weeks and other
specific activities.
•To facilitate good internal and external communication about all
International activities through the school website, an International
notice board, school newsletters and press releases to local media.
• To secure resources within the school to promote the International
Dimension.
• To be aware of DES initiatives to promote the International
Dimension and work alongside education bodies (PDST, NCCA etc) in
the development of an International Dimension.
•To support global school projects, links and exchanges, including
visitors from other countries.
•To be responsible for applying for the International School Award.
An International Dimension will help our students recognise their
contribution and responsibilities as citizens of the global community
whilst critically examining their own values and attitudes and
appreciating the similarities between peoples everywhere.
