April 2017 newsletter - Market Harborough | Tennis Club

Dear Members,
Things are starting to happen around the club! The courts top 3 courts will have been repainted on Easter Friday and
you have been informed by a separate email that they are out of action until the evening of Thursday 20th April. We
are sorry for this inconvenience over the holiday period but the weather dictates when the painting can happen.
Your subscriptions for the coming season should now have been paid. If you, or your son/daughter are intending to
play in any team, and you have not paid, you must do so quickly as it is a requirement of the leagues that all players
are signed up to membership 2 weeks before taking part in a match. If you have forgotten, then please take this as a
reminder.
Adult coaching has been requested by several people. Group coaching will happen on Tuesday evenings starting on
Tuesday 25th April at 6.30. It will cost £5.50 per session and then you will be free to stay afterwards and play friendly
mix in games. It is open to members and non members so if you have a friend or family member who is interested,
bring them along. There is no need to book, just turn up on the first night.
Junior coaching After Easter, Gordon moves junior coaching from the dome back to the club. This runs on Saturday
mornings until noon and some evenings between 4-6pm. On a Thursday it runs until 7pm and therefore adult club
night cannot start until then.
Fundraising and planning for the new clubhouse continue. We are ready to apply for planning permission and have
included floodlighting of the 4th court within this. All these stages cost us money, so we are trying to fund raise this
season to offset these costs. To this end, we are selling raffle tickets. If you have not received any, there is a box of
them in the clubhouse, None of us are very keen on selling tickets, but if everyone could sell a couple of books that
would help greatly. Please take a couple of books and do your best. The draw is on Sunday 14th May at Open day –any
tickets sold and money collected should go to any committee member or can be put through our treasurer Bob
Holland`s door at 3 Dingley Road (first house past the church and church hall in Gt Bowden).
Adult Matches will start on the week commencing May 1st. Please be aware that this will happen almost every
Monday Wednesday and Friday from 6.15 each evening. The 4th court will still be available. Match details are posted in
the clubhouse so you can keep informed through those. Junior Matches are also underway, these mostly happen on
Sunday mornings and Sunday late afternoons, leaving time in the middle for a club afternoon.
The start of season tournament will be on Thursday April 20th from 7pm when we have organised a `chilli evening`. Do
come along and join us for some food and a hit around. This neatly coincides with the reopening of the newly painted
courts. We will provide the food, members are asked to bring some wine or beer. (and a sombrero if they wish!)
Club evenings on Thursdays were very successful last year. The social committee are aiming to have one `special food`
event each month through the season. On other Thursdays we will ask members to sign up either to BBQ or provide
other refreshments. If pairs of members all take one evening to provide food and/or drink, then we can share the
costs and fairly keep it free to members each Thursday. A sheet will go up in the clubhouse soon so please sign up for
one clubnight.
Wimbledon Tickets The club have been allocated pairs of tickets-unfortunately it is quite low this year since only 52%
of the membership opted in despite several emails asking people to do so. Joan , our secretary is dealing with this and
will be in touch with those who have applied.
The Quiz Night was very successful earning the club £350-thanks to the many people who got involved by helping in a
variety of ways. Next time we will give some lessons in question writing to some of those who volunteered !!
Finally, a note about Clubspark. When you paid your subscription, you will have had an invitation from Sarah, our
membership secretary to join Clubspark. If you sign up , it is free and you are committing to nothing. This is an LTA
funded piece of club management software which we are trying to move across to as it offers some advantages in
managing the club. Most importantly, when a big enough proportion of our members have signed up, we will be able
to offer an online court booking system, which also has an associated phone app. So if you had a request to join
clubspark, please do so. If you are not aware of a request, please contact sarah on [email protected]
There have been a couple of issues with the website over the last couple of weeks. We are confident that this is now
sorted and it will shortly be updated. If anyone asks about tennis, please refer them to the website as a starting point.
