To ensure the best possible performance at the National Championships, and to provide a transparent decision making process, VWA has developed this policy. This document is to be used in conjunction with other VWA policies and State Team nomination forms. This document lists the eligibility and selection process for State Teams. This policy applies to the selections of State Team Coaches, Head of Delegation, Team Managers and Referee positions. NOMINATIONS AND ELIGIBILITY Application & Selection The nomination forms for the positions will be published in the VWA Volley Voice and on the VWA website. Candidates seeking appointment / selection onto a State Team should complete all sections of the application form and return it to the VWA office prior to the forms due date. The due date will be published on the form. VWA will confirm receipt of the application form. No forms will be accepted after the closing date.* *In extenuating circumstances the VWA Executive Director and / or the VWA Board may accept the late submission of application for nominations. The relevant submission must be provided in writing to the VWA Executive Director. Eligibility To be eligible for appointment / selection onto a WA State Team the applicant must; Have no outstanding financial obligations with VWA. Must not be subject to any disciplinary action. Must complete the Working With Children’s Check (over 18 years). Coaches and Referees must hold the minimum accreditation required to coach or referee at a National Championship level. Ensure they understand and implement the VWA Code of Conduct and at all times behave in a manner that is appropriate to being a member of a VWA State Team. o Refer VWA Member Protection Policy (Addendum to Australian Volleyball Federation – VWA Board August 2013); Part D1: General Code of Conduct 3|Page VWA State Team Selection Policy – HOD, Team Managers, Coaches and Referees VWA Board – February 2016 Part D2: Administrator Code of Conduct (Head of Delegation and Team Managers) Part D3: Coach Code of Conduct Part D5: Officials Code of Conduct SELECTION Selection Committee Responsibilities The Selection Committee is responsible for selecting, pending final ratification by the VWA Board the positions of State Team Coaches, Team Managers, Head of Delegation and Referee positions. The selection of the State Team positions shall be by majority vote. Candidates that do not meet the eligibility criteria will not be selected onto a State Team. When the Selection Committee has agreed upon the final State Team positions, the list of recommended appointments will be provided to the VWA Board for ratification. The successful and unsuccessful candidates will not be advised of selection until ratified by the VWA Board. There are three selection Committees responsible for the selection of the State Team personnel; o AVL Head Coaches, AJBVC Head Coach, and AJVC, AJBVC and AVL Head of Delegations o Team Coaches , Team Managers and as required Team Chaperones o Referees AVL Coach and Head of Delegation Selection The AVL Coach, AJBVC Head Coach, and the AJVC, AJBVC and AVL Head of Delegation Selection Committee shall comprise of; VWA President or VWA Vice President (Meeting Chair) VWA Coaching Committee Chairperson VWA Executive Director A representative from the VWA Board will be nominated by the VWA President or VWA Executive Director if the VWA Coaching Committee Chairperson is nominating for one of the positions. The VWA Executive Director will record notes from the Selection Committee meeting. Team Coaches and Team Managers Selection The Team Coaches and Team Managers Selection Committee for AVL and AJVC shall comprise of; VWA Coaching Committee Chairperson (Meeting Chair) AVL Head Coach (gender specific) WA Hornets & WA Pearls VWA Participation and Development Manager VWA Executive Director 4|Page VWA State Team Selection Policy – HOD, Team Managers, Coaches and Referees VWA Board – February 2016 A representative from the VWA Board will be nominated by the VWA President or VWA Executive Director if the VWA Coaching Committee Chairperson or the VWA Participation and Development Manager is nominating for one of the positions. The VWA Executive Director will record notes from the Selection Committee meeting. The Coaches Selection Committee for AJBVC shall comprise of; VWA Beach Committee Chairperson (Meeting Chair) AJBVC Head Coach VWA Executive Director A representative from the VWA Board will be nominated by the VWA President or VWA Executive Director if the Beach Committee Chairperson or Coaching Committee Chairperson is nominating for one of the positions. The VWA Executive Director will record notes from the Selection Committee meeting. Referee Selection The Referee Selection Committee shall comprise of; VWA Referee Committee Chairperson (Meeting Chair) WA VARC Representative VWA Executive Officer A representative from the VWA Referee Committee will be nominated by the VWA Referee Committee Chairperson and the VWA President or VWA Executive Director if the WA VARC Representative is also the VWA Referee Committee Chairperson. The VWA Executive Officer will record notes from the Selection Committee Meeting. 5|Page VWA State Team Selection Policy – HOD, Team Managers, Coaches and Referees VWA Board – February 2016 APPEALS POLICY & PROCEDURE Please refer to the VWA Appeals and Grievance Regulations. Refer VWA Member Protection Policy Part C (Addendum to Australian Volleyball Federation – VWA Board August 2013). CONFIDENTIALITY AND REPORTING Breaches of this policy must be reported to VWA Management within 14 days of any occurrence. Breaches of this policy must be kept confidential and disclosure to any third party beyond the VWA Management is not permitted. ADDITIONS AND CHANGES TO POLICY Recommended changes to this policy may be submitted in writing to VWA for consideration. The VWA Board will review the recommendations who have the authority to make any changes to this Policy. Should changes be accepted, the policy will be updated, dates and circulated to members.
